Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores God's relentless love, His constant search for the lost, and the joyous celebration that occurs when a sinner repents and returns to Him.
Good morning, dear ones. How wonderful it is to gather together in this sacred space, united in our love for the Lord and our desire to know Him more. We are all here because we've been touched by the transformative power of His love, and we yearn to delve deeper into His word, to truly understand His teachings and how they apply to our lives.
Today, we find ourselves in the fifteenth chapter of Luke, verses eight through ten. A passage of scripture that tells a tale of loss, of search, and of joyous reunion. It reads as follows:
"Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
This passage, my friends, is a beautiful illustration of God's relentless love for us. It shows us that no matter how far we stray, no matter how lost we may feel, our Heavenly Father is always searching for us, always ready to welcome us back into His loving embrace.
In the story we read, the woman who lost her coin didn't just sit around and hope that it would magically appear. She took action. She lit a lamp, she swept her house, and she searched carefully until she found what she had lost. This is a picture of God's pursuit of us. He doesn't just sit back and wait for us to find our way back to Him. He actively seeks us out. He lights the lamp of His word to guide us, He sweeps away the debris of our mistakes and failures, and He searches for us until He finds us.
An image of God's love for us: It's not a passive love. It's not a love that waits for us to make the first move. It's a love that takes the initiative, a love that goes out of its way to find us and bring us back into the fold. This is the kind of love that God has for each and every one of us.
Our pursuit of Him: Just as the woman in the story had to take action to find her lost coin, we too have to take action in our relationship with God. We have to light the lamp of our faith, sweep away the distractions and obstacles that stand in our way, and search for God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
The woman in the story didn't give up: Even when she couldn't find her coin right away. She kept searching until she found it. In the same way, we shouldn't give up when we don't immediately find what we're looking for in our relationship with God. We should keep seeking Him, keep praying, keep reading His word, keep worshiping Him, until we find the closeness and intimacy with Him that we desire.
When the woman in the story found her coin: She didn't keep the news to herself. She shared it with her friends and neighbors. She invited them to rejoice with her. In the same way, when we experience God's love and grace in our lives, we shouldn't keep it to ourselves. We should share it with others. We should invite them to rejoice with us. We should use our experiences to encourage others in their faith and to point them to the God who loves them and is actively pursuing them.
In the joyous reunion of the woman and her lost coin, we see a reflection of the heavenly celebration that occurs when a lost soul finds its way back to God ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
