Summary: There has been a lot of controversy over this subject. What does the bible say about the unpardonable sin?

Jesus had been performing miracles. He had cast out the evil spirits from a man. The Pharisees had been saying he was an imposter, refuting his ministry. They attributed the work of the Holy Spirit as the work of Satan verse 24, his answer verse 31. There is a sin that God will not forgive, it is found here where men did commit it.

1. When can it be committed?

a. Verse 32

b. This age, ‘apostolic’ age to come. Some are afraid they have committed it.

2. Murder is not an unpardonable sin.

a. Saul killed his thousands’, David his tens of thousands.

b. Moses and the Egyptians.

c. Apostle Paul.

d. There is forgiveness if you confess and accept Jesus Christ.

3. Adultery is not an unpardonable sin.

a. Man dies of this sin in his heart.

b. Woman at the well. She was caught in the very act.

c. David and Bathsheba.

4. Sin against the Holy Spirit.

a. This is the unpardonable sin.

b. How is it committed?

1) Hebrews 10:26

2) Proverbs 29:1

3) Proverbs 1:24

4) A willful sin.

c. Pharisees knew their accusation was not so.

1) They willfully attributed the power of the Holy Spirit to the power of Satan.

2) God always makes himself known and clear before he would place this eternal mark upon man.

d. Knowledge is essential before you can commit.

1) You must understand first.

2) John 16:7-11, The way God imparts knowledge of truth to us through the Holy Spirit.

e. Not intellectual knowledge.

1) Not human teacher.

You may memorize trinity in catechism, doctrines of God.

f. Everybody leans on God.

1) Hearing God’s word preached causes the Holy Spirit to work in your heart and soul.

2) These things reveal to you.

3) Hebrews 10:26, it is a sin against the last divine witness God has.

g. Some treading on dangerous ground.

1) Those who hear, hear, and hear the gospel.

2) We are reproved by the Holy Spirit.

3) I’d rather be a heathen in Africa and never hear, than to be here in America and willfully rejected.

h. The danger line.

1) Genesis 6:3, My spirit will not always strive with man.

5. Conclusion

a. Whether we admit it or not, we are sinners before a righteous God.

b. Judgment is sure.

c. If you realize that you need the Savior, you can come to the altar tonight and come to Christ.
