WHAT IS TRUTH? - The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth
John 18:36-38
[36] Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
[37] Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thousayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
[38] Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
The truth is called the gospel!
1 Corinthians 15:3-5
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The abbreviated gospel in a nutshell is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus but the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth is that He is not just Jesus... He is Jesus Christ the Lord!
Semantics – the meaning of words or phrases
Jesus is His name - Deliverer - Salvation
Christ is His title - Developer - Sanctification
Lord is His position – Dominion - Sovereign
Jesus is the Christ and Jesus Christ is Lord.
Syntax – arrangement of words or phrases. – When the Bible say Jesus Christ, the focus is His humanity. When the Bible says Christ or Christ Jesus, the focus is on His deity.
The truth is, the way we perceive Jesus is the way we receive Jesus.
Is He just Jesus? (A good man…a good teacher… a prophet… still on the cross)
Is He the Christ? (God manifest in the flesh and nothing less)
Is He MY Lord? (Owner, Ruler, Master – “Why call ye me Lord, Lord and not do what I say?”
Matthew 16:15-19
[15]He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
[16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
[17] And Jesus answered and saidunto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
[18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
[19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earthshall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
Our potential in life depends on our revelation of the Christ! In order to unlock everything in the salvation package, we must know the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God!
The truth is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God so Jesus was the Son of God before He was the son of Mary.
1. The Preexistence of Jesus Christ – John 1:1-3 & 14 – He is the Word that was with God and was God in the beginning and He began the beginning... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He was God in the flesh and nothing less.
2. The Previous Visitations of Jesus Christ – He was the Angel of the Lord that visited Abram and Sara in Genesis. (John 8:58
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.) He was the burning bush in Exodus. He was a pillar of cloud that stood at the door of the tabernacle in Numbers. He was the Captain of the Lord’s host in Joshua. He was the beauitiful stranger that spoke to Samson’s parents in Judges. Daniel calls Him the ancient of days because He’s been there and done that.
3. The Prophetic Announcements of the Coming of Jesus Christ – Jesus the Christ was God’s plan for man before the foundation of the world and God want us to know Him when we saw Him. (Micah, Isaiah, Daniel, Hosea, Jeremiah prophesied that he would be called King, betrayed, and pierced in his hands and feet and side)
4. The Virgin Birth –
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1 Corinthians 15:45
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
