Understand and appreciate the revelation of Jesus Christ, the True Shepherd, as the cornerstone of our faith, and the blessings that come from following Him.

Introduction

Good morning, Church family! Today, we're going to dive into God's word, specifically into Zechariah 10:4. The focus of our sermon today is The True Shepherd.

Now, Zechariah 10:4 says,

"From Judah will come the cornerstone, from him the tent peg, from him the battle bow, from him every ruler."

It's a powerful message about the coming of Jesus Christ, the True Shepherd, who's the cornerstone of our faith.

To kick us off, let's reflect on this quote from M. Russell Ballard: "Trust the Lord. He is the good shepherd. He knows His sheep. And His sheep know His voice." Our faith isn't a debate, it's a divine communication from God Himself, and through the revelation of the True Shepherd, we find the essence of that divine communication.

Let's bow our heads in prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of Your word, and we ask Your Holy Spirit to guide us as we delve into the message You have for us today. Help us to understand, appreciate, and apply the lessons of the True Shepherd in our daily lives. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Now, let's get into it, folks!

The Revelation of the True Shepherd

The revelation of the True Shepherd is not just about the coming of Jesus Christ, but also about His role and His mission. The True Shepherd, as prophesied in Zechariah 10:4, is none other than Jesus Christ Himself. This prophecy speaks of Christ as the cornerstone, the tent peg, the battle bow, and the ruler. Each of these symbols carries a significant meaning that reveals the nature and the role of Christ as the True Shepherd.

The cornerstone: This is a critical part of a building. It is the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, and all other stones are set in reference to this stone. This signifies that the cornerstone determines the position of the entire structure. In the same way, Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. He is the foundation upon which our faith is built, and everything else in our lives should be aligned with Him. Our beliefs, our values, our actions, and our decisions should all be guided by Christ, the cornerstone.

The tent peg: In ancient times, a tent peg was used to secure a tent to the ground, to keep it stable and secure. This symbolizes the role of Christ as our anchor, our stability, and our security. In the storms of life, when we are buffeted by trials and tribulations, it is Christ, the tent peg, who keeps us grounded and secure. He provides us with the stability we need to withstand the storms of life.

The battle bow: This represents strength and victory. In ancient warfare, the bow was a weapon of choice, symbolizing power and victory over enemies. This symbolizes Christ's victory over sin and death. Through His death and resurrection, Christ has won the ultimate victory for us. He has conquered sin and death, and through Him, we too can have victory.

The ruler: This is a symbol of authority and leadership. Christ is not just a shepherd, but the True Shepherd. He is the one who leads us, guides us, and protects us. He is the one who has the ultimate authority over our lives. As the True Shepherd, Christ leads us with love, compassion, and wisdom. He guides us along the right paths, and He protects us from harm.

The multifaceted nature of Christ as the True Shepherd: They reveal His role as the foundation of our faith, our stability and security, our victory, and our leader. They reveal His love, His power, His wisdom, and His authority. They reveal His mission to save us, to guide us, and to lead us.

Understanding is crucial to our faith: It helps us to understand who Christ is, what He has done for us, and what He continues to do for us. It helps us to understand our relationship with Him, and how we should live our lives in response to His love and His leadership.

Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about how God has been a True Shepherd in your own life. How has this affected your faith?
