This sermon explores the significance of the tearing of the temple veil, symbolizing the end of separation and the beginning of reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved family in Christ. What a joy it is to gather together in the house of our Lord, united in our love for Him and each other. It is my privilege to share with you today a message that has been stirring in my heart, a message that resonates with the very core of our faith.

I want to draw your attention to a moment that changed everything. A moment that took place amidst the shadows of history, a moment that reverberated through the annals of time and eternity. I want you to picture the scene: the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. The sky was darkened, the earth shook, and something extraordinary happened in the temple. The veil, that massive curtain separating the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple, was torn in two from top to bottom.

Tearing of the Temple Veil

But what does this mean for us? How does this ancient event impact our modern lives?

To help us understand, let's look at the words of renowned theologian J.I. Packer. He once said, "There is no peace like the peace of those whose minds are possessed with full assurance that they have known God, and God has known them, and that this relationship guarantees God's favor to them in life, through death and on forever." The divine act of tearing the veil signaled the end of separation and the beginning of reconciliation. Now, let us read together the following passages:

"Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent." (Matthew 27:50-51)

"Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:14-16)

"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having a high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)." (Hebrews 10:19-23)
