The Talking Dog
Contributed by Dennis Casanova on Mar 15, 2004 (message contributor)
Summary: Liars are not held in great esteem but are we all not liars on occasions ? It is most important that we do not lie in regards to our Christianity.
One day in Jackson, Alabama, a guy sees a sign in
front of a house: "Talking dog for sale". He rings the
bell and the owner, Bubba, tells him the dog is in the backyard.
The guy goes into the backyard and sees a black Lab just sitting there.
"You talk?" he asks.
"Yep," the Lab replies.
"So, what’s your story?"
The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered this
gift pretty young and I wanted to help the government,
so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they
had me jetting from country to country, sitting in
rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one
figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of
their most valuable spies eight years running. The
jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I
wasn’t getting any younger and I wanted to settle
down. So I signed up for a job at the airport to do
some undercover security work, mostly wandering near suspicious
characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings
there and was awarded a batch of medals. Had a wife, a mess of
puppies, and now I’m just retired."
The guy is amazed.
He goes back in and asks Bubba what he wants for the
dog.
"Ten dollars." The guy says,
"This dog is amazing. Why on earth are you selling him
so cheap?"
"He’s a liar. He didn’t do any of that stuff."
I recently received this dog story from a friend who thought it cute as I did.
It is a nice story and has a good Christian lesson in it.
Where you might ask?
It makes it pretty clear the liars are not worth much.
Are We liars ?
Re 2:2 -
I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;
We tell people we are Christains but do we actually live it
or just speak the words ?
Do we consistantly behave as Christians or do we speak the words
and ignor the facts.
I can stand in your garage, making car noises, and say that I am a car.
Does that make me one ?
I can stand in your swimming pool and call myself a swimmer, but does
make me a swimmer?
No, not until I begin to paddle, and it is the same with
Christians or those that claim to be one. Until we begin to paddle we are
liars if we claim to be true Christians.
How do we paddle ?
- in my humble opinion-
Attend Church consistantly on Sundays. Fellowshipping with other good Christians when ever possible.
Honor God in all things.
Read the Word and learn it well. Again in my opinion truely learning the Bible is only done in intensive Bible study in league with others more learned in the Bible than we are.
In order to safe guard your life start off each day with a short reading in the Bible, and in prayers asking God to follow and enhance you during this day.
Treat your fellow man in a manner that bespeaks that you truely
are a Christian and understand and live up to its demands and obligations.
Its a big responsibility you carry if you chose to call yourself
a real Christian.
O.K. we liars need to get busy, and Prove to all who meet
us that we are indeed worth more than the $10 that talking dog was worth and that we are Real Christians.
If you don’t I may show up in your garage making car noises and pretending I’m a car, inorder to remind you. :<)
