Summary: What the Word of the Lord is tothe believer
THE SWORD OF THE LORD
Ezek. 21:1-16 Judges 7:16-22 KJV
Introduction:
The sword of the spirit is the spiritual “offensive” weapon that God has provided for His believers.
The Roman soldiers wore on there sides a short sword, which could be used for close fighting and combat.
Hebrews 4:12 says…
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.
No matter the size of the sword that you carry, it will do the job.
A. Why is the Word of God compared to a sword?
1. It can not only defend, but it can also pierce the inner man.
2. Material swords pierce the flesh and bone, but the Word of God pierces the very heart of man
Acts 5:33 says…
“When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them”.
What did they hear? The heard Peter recall of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in Vv 29-32
Physical and Spiritual
~If you can recall Peter used a sword to defend Jesus Christ “Physical”
~Peter then learned at Pentecost that the sword of the Lord does a much better work on
the ears and hearts of men “Spiritual”
Can you recall in Ex 2:11-15, when Moses tried to use a physical sword to conquer, only to discover that the Word of God (spiritual) alone does more than any (physical) sword could ever do.
The Physical sword is a taker of life.
The Spiritual sword is a giver of life. Which do you prefer?
God’s Sword
Believe it or not, god has His own sword, which has the following functions
1. To Render vengeance to His enemies.
2. To Reward them that HATES Him.
3. To Reap the flesh of His enemy.
~In Genesis, there is a flaming sword (physical) keeping guard
~In Judges, there is a glittering sword (physical) keeping it sharp.
~In Joshua, we see a man appearing to Joshua with a sword; Joshua asked him, “Are you
for us or our adversaries”? (physical question). He replied, “I am the captain of the host
of the Lord”. (Spiritual answer)
~This comforting to us to know, the Captain is on our side, and He has His sword drawn,
ready to defend you and I.
~Joshua knew he would obtain the victory, the Captain had arrived.
Material Swords
They harm the body, but the sword of the Spirit heals the heart.
The more you use a physical sword, the duller it becomes.
Using the Sword of the Lord only makes you sharper.
A physical sword requires a skilled soldier;
The spiritual sword is moved by the life giving spirit.
People should prefer the Spiritual sword over the Physical sword.
**Both vary in size and work.
**Some are for chopping, some for cutting, and some for piercing. (Both)
**The Word is a sword! Compiled up of all kinds of swords, you and I just need to open
up its leather sheath and pick out the sword we need.
~There is a sword to fight off DEPRESSION in Isa.53:4-10, Acts 10:34-40
~The sword of DELIVERENCE must be used in aggression, both to protect you and
also fight the enemy off not against other Saints. AMEN!
Use your sword against the Flesh, the World, the Principalities of the air, against disease, and the very host of hell.
Remember that we are more than conquers in Christ Jesus.
The enemy fights us with determination and firmness, to kill us. We must fight him with the good fight; overcome that which is evil with good.
The Word of the Lord is called the sword of the Spirit in Eph. 6:17 and Heb. 4:12,
I say lets use it!
~There is a sword of PEACE found in John 14:27
This verse is saying to us, the Lord leaves with you my last, my best, my dying legacy=Peace. Not the kind the world gives you, but eternal peace.
Did you know they killed the Prince of Peace, and still ignore Him today. They that do will have no peace though out eternity.
~Finally there is a sword of VICTORY found in James 4:7 it says…
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.
Closing:
We have the weapon to defeat the enemy, we need to know how to use it, and stand on guard ready to go when needed.
