Psalm 21:1-7 The Sovereign

I. The Worship of the King (1-2) David was mindful of:

i. God’s Strength - 1 The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD.

David's Joy in God's Person, Power, Protection, & Providence.

Numbers 23:22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

1 Cor 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Victory's Source - But thanks be to God

Victory's Significance - which giveth us the victory

Victory's Supply - through our Lord Jesus Christ.

ii. God’s Salvation - 1 The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD;

and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

A Physical Deliverance, Spiritual Deliverance, An Eternal Deliverance.

iii. God’s Supply - 2 Thou hast given him his heart's desire,

and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah.

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

The Source of Our Joy - 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD

The Supply of Our Joy - he shall give thee the desires of thine heart

The Serenity of Our Joy - 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD;

The Security of Our Joy - trust also in him;

The Surety of Our Joy - and he shall bring it to pass.

2. The Wonder at the King - (3-5) David Amazed at:

i. God’s Provision -

3 For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head. Eph.1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

The Blesser - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

The Blessed - who hath blessed us

The Blessing - with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

ii. God’s Prosperity -

4 He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever.

The Request - 4 He asked life of thee,

The Response - and thou gavest it him,

The Result - even length of days for ever and ever.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

The Dignity - And this is life eternal,

The Deity - that they might know thee the only true God,

The Discovery - and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

The Destiny - this is life eternal,

iii. God’s Praise -

5 His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him.

Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47 and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden:

for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things;

and holy is his name.

3. The Witness to the King - (6-7) God's Blessing -

i. It's Duration - 6 For thou hast made him most blessed for ever.

ii. It's Distinction - 6 thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

iii. It's Devotion - 7 For the king trusteth in the LORD,

iv. It's Determination - 7 and through the mercy of the most High, he shall not be moved.
