The Sounds of Genesis

Genesis 3:6 (KJV)

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

I. The Bite

The most fearful sound in the history of mankind is the sound that was made when God’s beauty-perfect creation took a bite of the forbidden fruit. I personally don’t believe that it was an apple, most likely a fruit that is not known to man. But it is the sound of that bite that reverberated through hell and shook all of creation. I believe the sound of that bite was to the enemy the most joyful sound that he has heard since the day that he was expelled from heaven.

Because Christ is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, there is little doubt in my mind that the enemy had knowledge of the plan of God to create a people that He could fellowship with as friend to friend. There is also little doubt that he devised a plan of his own that would circumvent the plan of God. A scheme that would destroy that fellowship!

Man was created for a two-fold purpose: To fellowship with God and to worship God.

While satan never understood this “fellowship”, he did understand worship. Fellowship was reserved for friends and he was never a friend of God. He is believed to have been created to be the worship leader or at the very least he was one of the archangels. So in essence we are created to take his place at the table of worship and to go a step further than he could by enjoying the fellowship that friendship brings. When Adam and Eve partook together of this forbidden fruit, can you imagine the howls that went up from the hordes of fallen ones. With that bite, all that God had done in creating this magnificent creature was for naught. With that bite, fellowship was broken. Perhaps the devil thought that since man had fallen that maybe God would stay away. Maybe now that his creation has taken this bite, God will just leave us alone.

II. I hear footsteps.

Genesis 3:8 (KJV)

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

God’s prized creation has just done the unthinkable, they have broken covenant with God Himself and have partaken of the fruit that was forbidden. Fellowship has been broken! Adam and Eve have put together the first realtree camouflage and have started acting like monkeys and are trying to hide in the trees. With the horrid sound of that bite all that God had done to create union and communion has been destroyed. And yet in spite of mans fall, God in all of His Glory comes back to the garden.

The most beautiful sound in the entirety of the Word of God; in fact, take away this sound and all other sounds do not exist, that’s why I believe this to be the most beautiful of all, was the sound of the feet of God walking into the garden, when He knew that fellowship had been severed.

I can see the imps of hell suddenly go from jubilation to shouts of fear and uncertainty. I can’t help but shout when I think of the fact that He could have walked away! He could have cast us all into oblivion, but instead he came walking. While the sound of those steps sent fear into Adam and Eve, it is the most beautiful sound ever heard. Those steps meant He was not finished loving his creation. He wanted to restore fellowship!

III. Someone shut that baby up!

There is a sound that to this day sends the devil into a corner of hell where he curls up in a ball and rocks back and forth. There is a sound that causes the alarms to go off in the caverns of the deep.

Genesis 4:1 (KJV)

And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.

The sound that made the devil cringe in fear and to this day is the sound that reminds him of his doom was the sound that filled the skies and echoed through eternity. That sound was the sound of a baby named Cain which means- a lance (as striking fast) :- spear.

God said, I will defeat you through the birth of a baby! If the sound of a baby crying causes your heart to be moved; just imagine how it made the devil feel the first time the shriek of a newborn filled the sky! I wonder if that isn’t why he fights to kill the babies before they get a chance to cry. “Kill them in the womb, but don’t make me hear that sound!”
