THE SON OF MAN’S RETURN

Matthew 24:36-39

Introduction:

This study has focused on the question asked by the Disciples in Matthew 24:3, “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” We have been studying the answers to this question; but tonight, I want to focus on one of the most important points in this entire series.

Matthew 24:36 (NIV)

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

The Son of Man’s return…

1. Time is unknown.

Yes, I know that I bring this statement up every single week; but it is a necessary statement. Jesus tells us Who does know when He will return and who does not know.

The time is unknown to…

* Every person.

Anyone that says they know when Jesus is returning is a liar. I recently saw a statement by one of these false prophets that we might not know the day or hour; but we can know the month and year. Talk about the twisting of Scripture- This sounds like a statement directly from Satan.

The time is unknown to…

* Every angel.

Again, some of these false teachers and false prophets state that the angels in Heaven do not know; but the fallen angels know. God created a specific number of angels. That number does not change. At one point, every angel was in Heaven; and after Satan tried to overthrow God, 1/3 of the angels that followed Satan were thrown out of Heaven. If God is not going to share this with His children; why would He share it with the enemy? He doesn’t.

The time is unknown to…

* The Son of Man- Jesus.

Not even God the Son knows when He is returning. When it is time for Him to return, God will send Him. Anyone that says they know the time of Jesus’ return is saying that they know more than Jesus. They are a liar.

Matthew 24:37-39 (NIV)

37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

The Son of Man’s return…

2. Will be like the days of Noah.

Everyone is living life as if nothing is going to happen. Up to the day that Noah entered the ark, no one was concerned about what was going on. There had been many people who gave Noah a hard time about building this ark for a flood that they didn’t even believe was possible. There hadn’t been anything like a flood at that time. There are many who do not believe that Jesus is coming back. In fact, there are many who do not believe Jesus came the 1st time to redeem the world. People will not get it until it is too late.

Conclusion:

Remember- We are to be watching and praying. Be ready for Jesus’ return. Live everyday like He is coming back now.
