“The Son” Hebrews 1:1-4, Hebrews 2:5-12

1. Consider the Names of Jesus

• Jesus is known as the Christ which comes from the Greek “Christos,” meaning “anointed one” or “Messiah.”

• Jesus often referred to himself as the “Son of Man,” a title found in the Old Testament book of Daniel, which emphasizes his humanity

• Emmanuel is another well-known name for Jesus. See Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 7:14. This name, which means “God with us,”

• John the Baptist called him the Lamb of God.

• He is the “Savior” of the world. He is also the Word or Logos of God, who had a role in creation and revelation.

• According to Revelation, Jesus describes himself as the Alpha and Omega — underscoring Jesus’ eternal and unchanging nature as the beginning and end of all things.

2. The Writer of Hebrews calls Jesus “SON” The writer of Hebrews says this Son has spoken to us

• The writer says that the Son is heir (beneficiary) of all things, God has given Him all things in heaven and in Earth

• This son has created all worlds all things all stuff

• He is he reflection of the Gods Glory (Splendor, beauty, brilliance and wonder)

• The Son is the sustainer of all things by his powerful word (v. 3);

• The Son made purification for sins (v. 3);

• The Son is seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high (v. 3);

• The Son is superior to the angels (v. 4);

• The Son is blessed with a name “more excellent” than the angels (v. 4);

• The Son s crowned with glory and honor (v. 9);

3. God speaks to us. But what is God saying?

• God is saying the Son tasted “death for everyone” (v. 9); and

• God is saying The Son was made “perfect through sufferings” (v. 10).

• God is saying The Son of God …is heir … is Creator … is above angelic beings … is sustainer of all things.

• God is saying at the name of Jesus Knees bow tongues confess, Devils flee, sickness departs, healings and miracles happen at the name of Jesus, if we call upon the name of Jesus we can be saved.

4. This Son is the Image of God

• Look at verse 3” He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains[b] all things by his powerful word.”

• The apostle Paul says, “He is the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). So, if we could only see an image of Jesus, we could see an image of God.

• When we see Jesus we see the Father that is what Jesus told Thomas and Phillip6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

• 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

• 9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

• The Son is the imago Dei the image of God

5. The Son has many names, The Son has the Image of God, The Son is likness to humans

• Son as like us The Son was born

• The Son grew as a child like us
