THE SIX BASIC NEEDS OF THE UNSAVED
Acts 16:25 – 31
INTRODUCTION
A. This passage, we are looking at today, has some
great meaning in it.
1. We could talk about the faithfulness of Paul
and Silas.
2. We could talk about the power of prayer and
how God answers them.
3. We could talk about the testimony to the
jailer and what kinds of testimony he saw.
a. Having to listen to these men pray and
sing.
b. Seeing how faithful they were to it, even
though they were in jail for it.
c. Seeing that both of these men thought his
salvation was more important than their
escape.
d. They used God’s blessing and exhibition of
power to honor and glorify Him, by leading
this jailor to be saved.
B. However, I want to look at this man’s need of
Christ and how it applies to man today.
C. Christians today try to make being saved a lot
easier than it really is.
D. Even pastors, lay preachers, evangelist, and
deacons make it almost simple.
E. For a man to admit God is right, and that he is
wrong would mean that the man would have to put
his pride down.
F. Today, I want to look at six basic needs for an
unsaved person to know.
THE UNSAVED PERSON NEEDS TO KNOW THAT GOD IS
A. They need to know that there is a God.
B. Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible
to please Him: for he that cometh to God must
believe that HE is, and that HE is a rewarder of
them that diligently seek HIM.
C. Jesus said, “Verily, Verily, I say unto you,
before Abraham was I AM.’
D. He existed before time and He still exist today.
E. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the
end. He is the First and the Last.
THE UNSAVED PERSON NEEDS TO KNOW THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD.
A. John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the WORD,
and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God.”
B. To verify that God is, and that He is the WORD, we
see in the book of Revelation 19:13, John
wrote, “And HE was clothed in a vesture dipped in
blood, and HIS name is called the WORD OF GOD.”
C. The Bible is still His ever inspired, spoken and
written word. 2 Timothy 3:16 – “All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God
may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good
works.”
THE UNSAVED PERSON NEEDS TO KNOW HOW TO BE SAVED.
A. In this passage the soldier asked, “What must I do
to be saved?” vs. 30
B. What must you do to be saved from everlasting
torment?
1. Paul told the jailer, “Believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy
house.”
2. Paul wrote in Roman 10:9 – 10 – “That if thou
shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath
raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession
is made unto salvation.” Vs. 13 – “For
whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shalt be saved.”
C. Question: what should be the motivating factor in
my life to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior?
1. Hell is not the reason in it’s entirely.
2. It is because you must have sorrow and remorse
for your sins. You must have a repentant
heart, which means you must change your mind
about things. Repent means to change one’s
mind.
3. You must change you outlook on your beliefs.
a. Church roll won’t get you to heaven.
b. Good person won’t get you to heaven.
c. You must admit you are wrong and God is
right.
4. Jesus said, in John 3:17 “For God sent not HIS
SON into the world to condemn the world; but
that the world through HIM might be saved.
Verse 18 – “He that beleiveth on HIM is not
condemned: but he that believeth not on HIM is
condemned already, because he heat not believe
in the name of the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON of God.”
D. Some know they need to be saved, they just choose
not too.
E. You need to be saved today. The jailer had a
choice, He chose Christ.
F. The jailer chose to be saved then. The choice to
be saved was the key to his family being saved
also. VERSE 33.
G. How to be saved?
1. It’s not by your religious works or good
behavior that you may do. Eph. 2:8 – 9
