The Side God Is On

THE SIDE GOD IS ON

"…And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, ’Are You for us or for our adversaries?’ So He said: ’No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Joshua 5: 13-14.

The question is not "Whose side is God on?" but "Who is on God’s side?" The Lord’s answer to Joshua makes that clear. Napoleon, a great field general but a very poor theologian once said: "God is on the side of the largest battalion." How can we position ourselves on "God’s side" and be certain of victory in our lives?

HERE’S HOW:

I. RECOGNIZE THE LORD IN OUR LIFE:

At first glance Joshua may not have recognized the "Man" who stood before him as being "the Lord" but when He answered him, there was no doubt in Joshua’s mind.

Many times we may encounter the Lord in our lives and not be cognizant of His presence…but joyous indeed are the times when we do. Regarding the disciples returning to Emmaus, Luke 24:16 states: "But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him."

II. HAVING RECOGNIZED HIM AS LORD...WORSHIP HIM!

"And Joshua fell on his face and worshipped Him." Joshua 5:14.

III. EARNESTLY SEEK GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE:

"..and said to Him, What does my Lord say to His servant?" Joshua 5:14.

IV. HAVING FOUND GOD’S WILL...THEN OBEY HIS WILL!

"Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, ’Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.’ And Joshua did so." Joshua 5:15.

V. HAVING POSITIONED HIMSELF ON GOD’S SIDE, JOSHUA WAS BLESSED WITH A GREAT VICTORY!

"And the Lord said to Joshua: See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor….So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout all the country." Joshua 6:2, 27
