Emphasize the importance of treating others with kindness and compassion, as Jesus taught that our actions towards the 'least of these' are directly seen as actions towards Him.
Good morning, Church! Today we're going to delve into a pretty heavy topic, but one that Jesus Himself felt was important enough to address. It's about how we treat others, the responsibility we have as followers of Christ to help those in need, and the consequences of our actions.
As Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a respected German theologian once said, "We are not to simply bandage the wounds of victims beneath the wheels of injustice, we are to drive a spoke into the wheel itself."
This principle is beautifully illustrated in the book of Matthew, chapter 25, verses 31-46, where Jesus describes The Judgment of the Sheep and Goats.

Let's take a moment to pray:
Dear Father, we thank You for Your Word, and we pray for wisdom to understand and apply it to our lives. Help us to be more like you in our compassion and love for others, especially those in need. Guide us, Lord, to be Your hands and feet in this world. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
Let's get started.
The Judgment of the Sheep and Goats, as described in Matthew 25:31-46, is a powerful parable that Jesus used to illustrate the importance of our actions towards others, particularly those in need. It's a vivid depiction of the final judgment, where Jesus, the King, separates the righteous from the unrighteous, the sheep from the goats. The sheep are those who have shown kindness and compassion to others, who have fed the hungry, clothed the naked, visited the sick and imprisoned. The goats, on the other hand, are those who have neglected these acts of mercy.
How we should live our lives here and now: It's a call to action, a call to live out our faith in practical ways. It's not enough to simply believe in Jesus; we must also follow His example of love and compassion. We must see Jesus in the face of every person we meet, especially those who are marginalized and vulnerable. This is the essence of the Christian faith: to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
The sheep: They didn't realize that they were serving Jesus when they were helping others. They were simply doing what came naturally to them as followers of Christ. They were living out their faith in tangible ways. This shows that our actions towards others are a reflection of our relationship with God. When we love and serve others, we are also loving and serving God.
The goats: They failed to recognize Jesus in the least of these. They failed to show compassion and mercy to those in need. Their inaction was a sign of their spiritual blindness. They were more focused on their own needs and desires than on the needs of others. This is a stark reminder for us to not become complacent in our faith. We must always be alert and responsive to the needs of those around us.
A call to live out our faith in practical ways: It's a call to love and serve others, to see Jesus in the least of these, and to realize that our actions have eternal implications. It's a call to be more like Jesus, to be His hands and feet in this world.
Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about how you help people in your daily life and how your congregation can do the same. Is it difficult for you? Why or why not?
