THE SELLING OF YOURSELF

LUKE 9:23-26

Have you ever heard the expression, "I would like to buy him/her for what their worth and sell them for what they think their worth."

You may have even said that about someone. But I can assure you that you could never buy a person for what they are worth.

A. How much are you worth? What is your net value? If you fill out a will or take out a loan – they will try to determine what is your net worth?

What determines your worth? Is it how much money you have in the bank or saving? Is it how much property or material things you possess? What make you uniquely you? How are you different from any other person on earth - now or has ever been? You are the only one of your kind.

YOU ARE TOTALLY UNIQUE:

You are different physically: finger print – heart beat – DNA

You are different mentally: We don’t think alike- no 2 brains work the same.

You are different spiritually: We have strengths and weaknesses.

SOME WAG PUT IT THIS WAY, "YOU ARE DIFFERENT – JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE."

The thing that makes you different is you eternal soul.

All these difference that make you uniquely special and different is called your ’Psuche" - YOUR SOUL OR IN THIS TEXT "YOUR LIFE".

C. Our Lord raises a most interesting question in the text:

What would you sell your soul for?

Some would not knowingly sell it for anything but there is a multitude who is unknowingly selling their souls - and some pretty cheap.

T/S The text presents 4 great truths about your eternal soul.

I. THE WORTH OF YOUR SOUL.

LUKE 9:25 - For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

A. I don’t know what you consider the worth of your soul today but Jesus believed that one soul was worth more than all the wealth of this world.

B. This is why we are given the parable of the foolish man. (Luke 12:16)

C. If someone ask - what is the most valuable possession that you have? If you took a survey in Dallas/Ft.Worth this next week and surveyed 1000 people. You asked "what is the most important things to you?

HEALTH 1. Having fun 2. Being popular 3. sex 4. success 5. education 6. influence 7. Pleasure 8. money 9. position 10. Happiness

If you answer any other thing but "MY ETERNAL SOUL" You are indeed as foolish as the rich fool.

D. So, let me ask you today??? What would you sell you soul for?????

II. THE COST OF YOUR SOUL

A. You will say, "Can you put a price on a soul? Has anybody ever fixed a price for a soul? THE ANSWER IS YES.

The price of your soul has been established. It is forever fixed.

I. PETER 1:18 –

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed (purchased back) with corruptible things, as silver and gold, . . . . . but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

B. God said you have been bought and paid for -- the price of your soul has already been established.

I. COR. 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, who ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

C. How could anyone take lightly his soul - could ignore his soul in the light of what the Almighty God has paid for it? The blood of his dear Son. Jesus thought so much of your soul that he came from heaven and suffered the pangs of death and scorn of this life to save your soul.

III. THE BATTLE FOR YOUR SOUL.

A. There is a battle raging for the control of your soul. The Devil could care less if you ever go to heaven or hell. He wants your soul. He wants to control you.

I. PETER 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

B. There is a great old hymn that say,

"There’s a line that’s been drawn through the ages,

On that line stands the old rugged cross,

One the cross a battle is raging For the gain of man’s soul or His loss."

. . . . . . . THE BATTLE IS OVER.

The battle is only over for those who have claimed the victory through the Lord Jesus Christ.
