This sermon explores our sinful nature, God's unconditional love, and the path to salvation through faith, emphasizing God's patience and His timeline.

Introduction

Good morning, family. I'm so glad to see each and every one of you here today. You know, there's a quote by Randy Alcorn that has been rattling around in my mind these past few weeks. He said, "Grace never ignores the awful truth of our depravity; in fact it emphasizes it. The worse we realize we are the greater we realize God's grace." Truly, grace means nothing without knowing the depths of our sinful depravity.

While considering our sin, we will also be considering God's love. We're going to be looking at a few passages from the book of Romans that lay out the reality of our sinful nature, the unconditional love of God, and the path to salvation through faith.

The Reality of Our Sinful Nature

The first thing we need to understand about our sinful nature is that it's not just about doing bad things. Sin is not just a list of wrong actions. It's a condition of the heart. It's a state of being separated from God, of living our lives as if we are the center of the universe instead of Him. It's a state of rebellion, of choosing our own way instead of God's way.

The second thing we need to understand is that our sinful nature is not something we can overcome on our own. We can't just try harder or do better. We can't earn our way back into God's good graces. The wages of sin is death, Romans tells us. That's a heavy price, one we can't pay on our own.

The third thing we need to understand is that our sinful nature affects every part of our lives. It affects our relationships, our decisions, our attitudes, and our actions. It's like a poison that seeps into every part of our being, tainting everything we do. Even our best efforts are tainted by our sinful nature.

The fourth thing we need to understand is that our sinful nature is not the end of the story. Yes, it's a reality. Yes, it's a problem. But it's not the final word. The final word belongs to God, and His word is one of love, grace, and salvation.
