THE RETURN OF CHRIST

2 Peter 3:1-10

INTRO: Our world today doesn’t believe in the second coming of Christ, much less the destruction of the world when he does come. Much of the Bible, both the O.T. and the N.T., have Prophecy concerning the destruction of the world.

Here are some signs point to His return.

I. MEN WILL SCOFF AT GOD.

A. Being done today — remember the statement of the Russian Cos

monauts a few years ago. "....We don’t see God."

B. Men mocking God — trying to become as God. Mussolini, Stalin,

Hitler, Mao-Se-Tung.

1. We are mocking God — walking after our own lusts.

2. God is not mocked (Gal. 6:7-8).

II. THE WORLD LAUGHS AT CHRIST’S RETURN.

A. People think it is a myth.

1. They didn’t believe Noah.

2. His promise was made century’s ago, and nothing has happened

yet.

a. They purposely forget about the flood.

b. Can’t persuade men to believe what they wont accept.

III. THE WORLD WILL BE DESTROYED BY FIRE.

A. The fact it happened once should convince men to beware.

B. Those who scoff at judgment, will be caught in that judgment.

C. Men scoffed at the flood in Noah’s time.

IV. GOD IS PATIENT.

A. Men try to set up a timetable for God to keep.

1. He follows his own timetable not ours.

2. He is not slack because He doesn’t keep ours.

B. He is longsuffering USWARD, that we might glorify Him.

C. He was Patient for 120 yrs. in Noah’s time.

D. All prophecies relating to Christ return have been fulfilled.

E. He can come at any time — we must be ready for his return.
