Summary: This sermon will help anyone see the four-fold meaning of the bible. It tells us 1)what’s right, 2) what’s wrong, 3) how to make it right, 4) How to keep it right.
The Purpose of the Word
2 Timothy 3:16
Introduction: If we are to grasp the will of God for our lives, we must understand word of God in our lives. This passage of scripture gives us insight on the purpose of the bible. Paul writes to Timothy and shares with him the meaning of the scriptures or the bible. He states that ALL scriptures is given by the inspiration of God. Now the word inspiration means that it was God breathed. It also says that the word of God is profitable or productive in four ways.
I. The Word will Teach us What’s Right
“Doctrine” Greek word [did•as•kal•ee•ah] meaning that which is taught or precepts
Before the bible will Scorn us it will School us.
II. The Word will Teach us What’s Wrong
“Reproof” Greek word [elegchos] it means a conviction
God is trying to get the enemy out of me.
III. The Word will Teach us How to Make it Right
“Correction” Greek word [epanorthosis] means restoration to an upright or right state, correction, or improvement of life or character.
IV. The Word will Teach us How to Keep it Right
“Instruction in Righteous” Greek word [dikaiosune] meaning state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God, doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God, integrity, virtue, purity of life
