THE PURPOSE OF THE ANOINTING

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Isaiah 61:1-3

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified."

Supporting Texts: Acts 10:38, Luke 4:18-19, 1 John 2:27, Zechariah 4:6, Exodus 31:2-3

INTRODUCTION

The anointing is not just a divine empowerment; it is given for a specific purpose. When God anoints a person, it is not for personal glory but for the fulfilment of His divine agenda. In Isaiah 61:1-3, we see the mission of the anointed one: to preach, heal, deliver, and comfort. Jesus Himself echoed this scripture in Luke 4:18-19, showing that His anointing was for the salvation and restoration of mankind.

Many desire the anointing, but few understand its purpose. It is not for showmanship, personal gain, or fame; rather, it is for service, transformation, and the advancement of God’s kingdom. Acts 10:38 tells us that Jesus was anointed to go about doing good, healing the oppressed, and manifesting the power of God.

This sermon will explore the purpose of the anointing, why it is necessary, and how it should be used to glorify God.

If you desire to walk in the anointing, seek God with all your heart, live a consecrated life, and use the anointing to glorify Him. The world is waiting for the manifestation of God’s power in and through you. May the anointing upon your life accomplish divine exploits!
