Psalm 22:15-31 The Proclamation of the Suffering Messiah - 22:22-31 FOR THE JOY SET BEFORE HIM Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. I. The Joy of Being A Herald Jesus Is the Prophet Who Declares The Father - 22:22-25 (a) The First to Bear the News 22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. 24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. Neither hath he hid his face from him That is, “permanently, constantly, finally, completely.” Under the Davidic covenant, when a king was crowned over Israel, Psalms 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. In fifty of the psalms, He prayed for help and God heard his prayers and spared his life. Then the king went back to the congregation to "praise" God God had fulfilled his promise to Jesus in the resurrection. The result was that Christ declared God's praise among the apostles. This is the significance of the 40 days of resurrection appearances, when Jesus first appeared to the women, then to Mary Magdalene, then to the eleven, then to the 500. When Jesus returned from the grave, God did not send a memo He sent Jesus himself to relate the wonder of God's faithfulness. (b) The First to Lead In Praise (22:23) Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. II. The Joy of Being the Host Jesus Is the Priest Who Delivers The Faithful - 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.(a) The King Pays His Vows 25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him. Following his answered prayer, the king also offered a sacrifice to pay his vows. One-third was to be offered on the altar; one-third given to the priest; and one-third taken home for a three-day feast of celebration -- a meal to be enjoyed for three days.

(b) The King Prepares A Feast 26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. The invitation was made in a special way to the poor. At the wedding feast at Cana, Jesus turned water into wine. In the Upper Room the bread and the wine (the cup of redemption). Thus in the resurrection appearances he not only appeared to the disciples, but ate with them in Jerusalem, on the road to Emmaus, and with Peter at the Sea of Galilee. Psalm 23 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. III. The Joy of Being the Heir Jesus Is the Prince Who Dominates The Future - 22:27-31 (a) Heir of a Universal Kingdom 27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. Notice :- (a) The Reach All the ends of the world (b) The Reason shall remember the rule of this kingdom is not spread by coercion. As they recall this one act, the loyal-love of God toward the Son, then they will willingly turn (repent) to the Lord and worship him. (c) The Result and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee There are no national distinctions in this kingdom. no racial distinctions in this kingdom.all the kindreds of the nations no class distinctions: 29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul. ie. The Prosperous (fat) The Poor ( go down to the dust ) The Powerless (Dying)(b) Heir of An Everlasting Kingdom 30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. 31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this. v. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. God would not vindicate him in this life. He would have no children, no family, no inheritance. "You lay me in the dust of death," he said. But in the resurrection he would have children, an eternal seed that would continue on and on. They would be born through the announcement of this one act, "he has done it." This phrase is just one word in Hebrew. This is the gospel: He did it!
