Being born again is a transformative experience that changes our spiritual identity. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we become children of God. This new status brings numerous blessings and privileges. In this article, we'll explore what it means to be a child of God and examine the Bible verses that support this wonderful truth.
What does it mean to be a child of God?
To be a child of God means to have a personal relationship with Him, to be adopted into His family, and to receive His love, care, and inheritance. This status is not based on our achievements or good works but on God's grace and mercy through faith in Jesus Christ.
Bible Verses:
John 1:12-13: "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God."
Romans 8:14-17: "For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, 'Abba, Father.' The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."
1 John 3:1-2: "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him."
Privileges of being a child of God:
1. Intimate relationship with God (Galatians 4:6-7)
2. Access to God's presence and blessings (Ephesians 2:18, Psalm 103:2-5)
3. Guidance and wisdom (Romans 8:14, James 1:5)
4. Protection and care (Psalm 91:4, Matthew 6:26)
5. Inheritance of eternal life and heaven (1 Peter 1:4, John 14:2-3)
6. Freedom from sin and its consequences (Romans 8:1-2, John 8:36)
Being a child of God is a precious gift that brings immense joy, peace, and hope. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we can experience this wonderful privilege and live a life that honors our Heavenly Father. Let us embrace our identity as children of God and live according to His love and grace.
