The Prerequisites of Spiritual Growth

1 Corinthians 14:20
Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.
I. We Should have “The Desire To Grow”
a) We Will Never Grow Unless We Want to Grow
1 Peter 2:21 - Jesus set an example for us, and we should follow in His steps
b) We Must Maintain This Desire to Grow.
1 Corinthians 10:12 - Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. (kjv)
II. Maintain the Proper Diet Physical @ Spiritual
a) We Need Spiritual Food from God's Word
@ Likewise spiritually we cannot grow without feeding on God's Word.
Matthew 4:4 - Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. ( KJV)
b) Growing in Knowledge of the Lord
2 Peter 3:18 - Grow in the grace and KNOWLEDGE of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
III. Constant Exercise and Practice
a) Exercise and Practice Are Essential to Physical Development.
Philippians 4:9 - Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. New Living Translation (NLT)
b) Exercise and Practice Are Essential to Spiritual Growth.
1 Timothy 4:7 - Exercise yourself toward godliness.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (Holman Christian Standard Bible) Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day.
