INTRODUCTION:

Dreams are powerful. They are not just the things we see when we sleep, but they are visions, divine revelations, and the aspirations that God places in our hearts. Throughout history, God has used dreams to direct, inspire, and transform lives. A life without a dream is a life without direction. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

Joseph’s story in Genesis 37 is a classic example of the power of dreams. As a young boy, he had dreams of greatness, but his journey to fulfilment was filled with trials. However, his dreams eventually came true because they were from God. Your dreams have the power to shape your destiny, impact lives, and glorify God—if you hold onto them with faith.

1. DREAMS GIVE YOU A SENSE OF PURPOSE

A God-given dream provides direction and focus in life. Without it, life feels meaningless and scattered.

a) God has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11)

God does not create people without a purpose. His plans for you are good and filled with hope.

b) Dreams help you overcome distractions (Philippians 3:13-14)

Paul pressed forward toward his divine calling, not allowing anything to hinder him.

c) A clear vision helps in decision-making (Proverbs 16:9)

When you have a dream, you make choices that align with your destiny.

d) Dreams fuel persistence and determination (Galatians 6:9)

Those who do not give up will eventually reap the reward of their dreams.

e) Biblical Example: Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:17-20)

Nehemiah had a vision to rebuild Jerusalem, and despite opposition, he pursued it until it was accomplished.

2. DREAMS ATTRACT OPPOSITION BUT CANNOT BE STOPPED

The moment you start pursuing your dreams, challenges will arise. However, God will sustain you.

a) Opposition is proof that your dream is significant (1 Corinthians 16:9)

Paul faced many adversaries, but they were evidence of his divine assignment.

b) Jealousy and betrayal are part of the journey (Genesis 37:19-20)

Joseph’s brothers hated him because of his dreams, but they could not stop God’s plan.

c) God turns opposition into promotion (Romans 8:28)

What was meant for evil in Joseph’s life became a stepping stone to greatness.

d) Faith in God will sustain you through trials (Hebrews 10:35-36)

Patience and perseverance are required for dreams to come to pass.

e) Biblical Example: Daniel (Daniel 6:1-28)

Daniel’s dream of honouring God led to opposition in the lion’s den, but God delivered him and promoted him.

3. WRITE AND RUN WITH YOUR DREAMS

A dream that is not acted upon remains unfulfilled. God wants us to take steps of faith.

a) Write down your vision and commit to it (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

Writing your dreams makes them clear and keeps you accountable.

b) Start small but keep moving (Zechariah 4:10)

Every great achievement begins with a small step of faith.

c) Surround yourself with the right people (Proverbs 13:20)

The right associations can either push you toward or away from your dream.

d) Trust God’s timing (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Dreams may take time to manifest, but God makes everything beautiful in His time.

e) Biblical Example: Abraham (Genesis 12:1-4)

Abraham followed God’s vision for his life, even when he did not fully understand it.

4. DREAMS REQUIRE FAITH AND ACTION

Faith without action is dead. A dream will remain a wish unless steps are taken.

a) Faith activates your dream (Hebrews 11:1)

Seeing your dream before it happens is the first step to making it real.

b) Take bold steps towards your vision (Joshua 1:9)

Fear will always try to stop you, but courage is necessary for success.

c) Work diligently toward your dream (Proverbs 22:29)

Excellence and hard work bring recognition and opportunities.

d) Stay prayerful and dependent on God (James 1:5)

God’s wisdom is essential for making the right decisions.

e) Biblical Example: The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25-34)

She had faith that touching Jesus’ garment would heal her, and her action led to a miracle.

5. GOD’S POWER MAKES YOUR DREAMS A REALITY

When God gives a dream, He provides the power to fulfil it.

a) Nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37)

Even when circumstances seem impossible, God can turn things around.

b) The Holy Spirit empowers dreamers (Joel 2:28)

God promised that in the last days, His Spirit would cause people to dream and prophesy.

c) God grants supernatural favour (Psalm 5:12)

Divine favour makes the impossible possible.

d) God opens doors no one can shut (Revelation 3:8)

When God decides to lift a person, no opposition can stop it.

e) Biblical Example: Joseph (Genesis 41:37-44)

From prison to the palace, God fulfilled Joseph’s dreams against all odds.
