THE POWER OF WISE COUNSEL

Proverbs 11:14-21

Introduction:

In life’s journey, we often face moments of uncertainty where the path ahead seems unclear, and our own understanding falls short. During these times, wise counsel acts as a guiding light- Pointing us in the right direction and helping us navigate through challenges with confidence. Imagine walking through a dense fog on a dark night, unsure of which way to turn. Suddenly, a person with a flashlight appears, illuminating the way and preventing you from stumbling into danger. This is the power of wise counsel- It provides clarity when we are overwhelmed by confusion, reminding us that we are not meant to walk alone. God often uses trusted friends, mentors, and His Word to shine His light into our lives, helping us stay grounded in His truth and move forward in faith.

Furthermore, wise counsel is like a protective shield that guards us from making reckless decisions that could harm our lives. Just as a skilled navigator uses a compass to avoid treacherous waters, wise advice from Godly sources keeps us from straying into danger- Whether in our relationships, finances, or moral choices. It reflects a heart committed to righteousness and humility, acknowledging our dependence on God's wisdom. When we seek and offer counsel rooted in humility, we foster trust and community, creating an environment where God's guidance can flourish. Ultimately, the power of wise counsel lies in its ability to lead us toward victory, safety, and righteousness- Transforming uncertain circumstances into opportunities for growth and divine blessing.

Proverbs 11:14

Wise counsel…

1. Provides direction in uncertain times.

In life, there are times when everything feels uncertain- Plans change, challenges arise, and it's hard to see the next step clearly. During these moments, wise counsel becomes like a guiding light, helping us navigate through the fog. It’s a reminder that we don’t have to face everything alone or rely solely on our own limited understanding. Instead, God often uses others, (trusted friends, mentors, or spiritual advisors) to steer us in the right direction. Recognizing our human fragility and dependence on divine guidance helps us stay humble and open to advice that aligns with God's truth.

True wise counsel isn’t just about practical tips; it’s rooted in seeking God’s wisdom and His perspective. When we’re unsure, prayer, Scripture, and the input of mature believers help us stay anchored in God's promises and sovereignty. It’s about partnering with the Holy Spirit and others to make decisions that honor God and move us forward in faith. This process also reminds us of the importance of community- Coming together with humility and a genuine desire to hear what God might be saying through others. In uncertain times, leaning on this collective wisdom can bring clarity and peace, even when the road ahead is unclear.

Ultimately, seeking wise counsel is an act of faith. It’s trusting that God can use the advice of others, (no matter how imperfect) to guide us in His perfect plan. It teaches us to pause, listen, and wait for God's direction rather than rushing ahead impulsively. When we do this, we’re acknowledging our dependence on God’s wisdom and His ability to turn uncertain circumstances into opportunities for growth and victory. In the end, wise counsel isn’t just about making smarter decisions; it’s about trusting God’s sovereignty and allowing Him to lead us through the unknown with confidence.

Proverbs 11:15-19

Wise counsel…

2. Safeguards our lives.

Wise counsel isn’t just good advice; it’s like having an invisible shield that protects us from making reckless decisions that could ruin our lives. When we seek wisdom from trusted sources, (whether it’s wise friends, mentors, or prayerful reflection) we’re tapping into divine guidance that keeps us safe from dangers we might not even see coming. God often works through these trusted voices to steer us away from harmful choices, helping us guard our hearts and minds from things that could lead us astray.

Our decisions, (especially those related to money, relationships, and moral values) are like gateways that lead either to life or destruction. Wise counsel helps us stay on the right path by rooting us in integrity and truth. It helps us recognize false securities, things that seem promising but ultimately lead to ruin. When we listen to wise advice and walk in righteousness, we’re building a protective barrier around our lives, ensuring that we don’t fall into traps of greed, pride, or deception that can cause lasting damage.

Deep down, true wisdom comes from the Holy Spirit working within us. It’s not just about human advice but about being sensitive to God's voice. When we invite the Spirit into our decision-making, we gain a divine safeguard that guides us beyond our limited understanding. Surrounding ourselves with wise, godly people creates a community that watches out for each other, providing a collective shield. Embracing this kind of wisdom helps us live with purpose, protecting us from harm while guiding us toward the abundant life Jesus promises.
