The Power of Unwavering Faith
Study Text: Mark 11:22–26
Introduction:
- In this passage, Jesus teaches His disciples one of the greatest spiritual laws in the kingdom: the law of faith.
- It came right after the miracle of the withered fig tree, a living illustration that faith-filled words have power. But Jesus didn’t stop there; He also connected faith with prayer and forgiveness.
- Faith moves mountains, but unforgiveness builds them.
- This message today challenges us to develop mountain-moving faith rooted in forgiveness and prayerful confidence in God.
- We shall be discussing the topic under four subheadings:
1. The Command of Faith
2. The Confession of Faith
3. The Conditions of Faith
4. The Character of Faith
1. The Command of Faith
- Faith is not optional; it is the believer’s lifeline.
- Jesus didn’t say “Have faith in things” or “Have faith in people,” but “Have faith in God.”
- True faith rests not on our ability, or on what we have or who we know, but on God’s reliability.
- Faith is seeing the invisible, believing the incredible, and receiving the impossible.
- Hebrews 11:6 — “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.”
- When life seems uncertain, don’t let fear speak louder than your faith. Speak to your situation with confidence in God’s Word.
2. The Confession of Faith
- Mountains represent obstacles, challenges, and barriers in life.
- Everyone at various times faces one mountain or the other in life.
- Faith doesn’t ignore the mountain; it doesn't deny it, but it speaks to it with authourity.
- Our words carry creative power: what we declare in faith can shape our reality.
- Jesus said, “You shall have whatever you say,” not whatever you wish. The power is in the spoken word of faith.
- Proverbs 18:21 — “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
- Stop describing your mountains; start declaring to them. Faith-filled words will turn impossibilities into testimonies.
3. The Condition of Faith
- Doubt is the enemy of faith; it divides the heart and produces unbelieve.
- Faith and doubt cannot dwell together.
- Jesus said, “When you pray, believe that you have received it.” Faith sees the answer before it manifests.
- Prayer is not a wish list; it’s a confident conversation with a faithful Father.
- James 1:6–7 — “Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering…”
- Even when the answer delays, keep believing. Faith is patient and persistent.
4. The Character of Faith
- Jesus ties forgiveness directly to faith.
- Unforgiveness blocks the flow of grace and hinders prayer.
- You cannot claim faith in God while holding bitterness against someone in your heart. The forgiven must also be forgiving.
- Matthew 6:14–15 - “If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
- Release the offense, and your faith will rise unhindered. The heart that forgives is the heart that receives.
Conclusion:
- Faith, prayer, and forgiveness are three strands of one powerful cord.
- Faith connects us to God’s power.
- Prayer releases that power.
- Forgiveness keeps the channel of power open.
- When we believe without doubting, speak with authority, and forgive freely, mountains must move.
