Emphasize the importance and necessity of experiencing and living in the power of the Holy Spirit in our Christian walk.
Good morning, brothers and sisters! Great to see each and every one of you here today. We're going to dive into an exciting topic that is extremely relevant to our walk as Christians. We're going to talk about the power of the Spirit, living in the Spirit, and witnessing the power of the Spirit.
Our reference today will be Luke 24:49 which says,
"And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."
This verse fills us up with anticipation, excitement, and a good dose of holy expectation, doesn't it? God's promise of power isn't something vague or abstract. It's real, tangible, and available to every believer.
As A.W. Tozer once said, "The Holy Spirit is not a luxury, not something added now and again to produce a deluxe type of Christian once in a generation. No, He is for every child of God a vital necessity, and that He fill and indwell His people is more than a divine ideal; it is a divine imperative."
Indeed, the Holy Spirit is not an optional extra in our Christian life, but an essential component of it. It's not just about knowing that the Holy Spirit exists, but experiencing and living in the power of the Spirit.
The power of the Spirit is not just about the Holy Spirit's existence, but about the dynamic and life-changing power that He brings into our lives. When we talk about the power of the Spirit, we're talking about a divine force that is capable of transforming us, guiding us, and empowering us to live out our Christian faith in a way that is both meaningful and impactful.
It’s active, dynamic, and constantly at work in our lives: It's like a river that is constantly flowing, bringing life, nourishment, and growth wherever it goes. This power is not something that we can generate on our own, but it is a divine gift that comes from God Himself. As believers, we have the privilege of tapping into this power and allowing it to work in and through us.
Its transformative nature: When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, He doesn't just make minor adjustments or superficial changes. He brings about a deep and lasting transformation that affects every aspect of our lives. This transformation is not just about changing our behaviors or attitudes, but about changing our very nature and identity. Through the power of the Spirit, we are made new and become partakers of the divine nature.
Empowers us: It does in a way that empowers us to live out our Christian faith in a way that is both meaningful and impactful. It's not just about knowing the right doctrines or following the right rituals. It's about living a life that is marked by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the fruits of the Spirit, and they are the evidence of the Spirit's power at work in our lives.
Equips us for service: It gives us the ability to serve God and others in a way that is both effective and impactful. The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts, which are special abilities that are given to us for the purpose of serving others and building up the body of Christ. These gifts are not just for our own benefit, but for the benefit of others and for the glory of God.
Gives us boldness and courage to witness for Christ: It's not just about having the right words to say, but about having the boldness and courage to say them. The Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses for Christ, to share the good news of the gospel with others, and to stand up for our faith even in the face of opposition or persecution.
Not something we can earn or achieve on our own: It is a gift that is given to us by God. It is not based on our own strength or ability, but on God's grace and power. As believers, we have the privilege of receiving this power and allowing it to work in and through us.
