The Power of the Holy Spirit in Your Life 11-26-2006

I think that too often we live beneath how God wants us to live, we don’t really do all that God wants us to do, and God doesn’t accomplish all that he truly wants to accomplish in our lives and with our lives. This results from us not truly living the Spirit filled life.

Sure we come together in the house of God, we lift our hands as we worship, we speak in tongues and have interpretation of tongues, but there is more to it than that.

Living the Spirit filled life is having faith in God,

Living the Spirit filled life is being obedient to God,

Living the Spirit filled life is a life empowered by God.

1. GOD IS PERSONAL TO EACH ONE OF US.

In parts of this world there are churches that have been changed into museums. They are full of gold, full of silver, full of beautiful stained glass but what is absent is the presence of the power of the Spirit of God.

And if we are not careful our lives will become like those churches, absent of the presence of the power of the Spirit of God. It will be just a dead hollow shell that was once alive.

What the church world needs today is to learn what it means to live in the power of the Spirit…To understand that the Holy Spirit has been given to make God personal to each one of us.

Gal 4:6

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

(KJV)

Rom 8:9

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

(KJV)

John 14:16-17

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

(KJV)

So God, by the Holy Spirit, becomes personal to each of us when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and repent of our sins. When we do that God the Holy Spirit then lives in us.

The life that we now live is to be a dynamic kind of life, an empowered life, the Spirit filled life.

We need to rediscover the universal priesthood of all believers so that we don’t depend upon him from an organizational institutional standpoint. We not only need to know what it is to be the church gathered but we also need to know what it is to be the church scattered. Individually capable of standing before the Lord as a priesthood of believers in behalf of others. God has given us the power to do so. He has made himself available and personal to each one of us.

What we often forget is the God does become personal to us through the power of the Holy Spirit…God is more than…

1. The man upstairs

2. abstraction

3. mysticism

4. elitism

5. emotionalism

He’s got to become a reality in our lives so that we’re not depend on a new age concept where we make our own psyche God or were we find God is the power within ourselves that somehow we trigger the release of that power of ourselves.

The Bible tells us that the greatest power that can be in man is God, then and only then does the Bible say…Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

That means that we’ve got to understand the power of the Holy Spirit in a living way…The Bible say’s that the Holy Spirit can….

a. As a person Speak

b. Take bodily shape

c. Is omniscient

d. Is omnipresent

e. Is omnipotent

f. He leads

g. He helps

h. He can be resisted

i. He can be grieved

j. He can be pleased

All of these give us the attributes of the personality of the Spirit, but that personality has to take a place in our own hearts and we have to understand that it’s the Holy Spirit in us that is going to give us the power.

2. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN US GIVES US POWER

The Holy Spirit gives us power in that he gives to us as necessary and when needed spiritual gifts. These gifts listed in 1 Cor. ch. 12 are to be the kinds of everyday things that we allow the Spirit to operate in our lives.
