The Power Of Hope
Contributed by Melvern Mcroberts on Jul 21, 2008 (message contributor)
Summary: This message demonstrates how powerful hope is when it is placed in Jesus Christ and there’s no reason to be without hope for a follower of Christ!
The Power of Hope
Key Verses: For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:24-25
Romans 8:12-25
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Memory Verses on Hope: We wait in hope for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in You. Psalm 33:20-22
Hope is mentioned six times in our reading and implied three others times in this short passage of Scripture.
1. Creation was subjected to frustration […] by the will of the One who subjected it, in hope. V.20
2. We wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. V.24
3. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. V.25
