THE POWER OF DESPERATE PRAYER.

TEXT :ISAIAH 38:1-7

🔑📖 Isaiah 38:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. 38:2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, 38:3 And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

? No situation in life is hopeless as long as God is the saddle. No matter the condition that confronts us there is always a way out. With God, nothing shall be impossible. Don't allow the expert's reports to intimidate you and paralyse your faith. Never give up. It is not over until it's over. Keep on believing and it shall be well with you in Jesus name.

?Our opening passage gives us the account of King Hezekiah who was "sick unto death" He was probably having a terminal disease and there was no cure in sight for his ailments. To compound his predicament, Prophet Isaiah came to deliver God's verdict that the King will not survive the sickness "for thou shall die and not live"

?Hezekiah rejected the death verdict and turned his face to the walk and prayed to God.

Turning his face to the wall is highly instructive.

All he wanted to see at that trying time was God and God alone.

No human being could help him.

He looked away from his physician and the invited consultants.

He resisted the temptation of resigning to fate and self-pity.

Without employing the services of prophets or prayer warriors, he approached the Life-Giver, the Almighty God all by himself.

?With his face to the wall, Hezekiah saw nothing but God. He started his prayer by trying to justify himself by claiming that he has walked before God in truth, and with a perfect heart and how he has done that which is good in the sight of God. But it was not for him to mark his scripts. The point that hit the target was "And Hezekiah wept sore"

He cried unto God and prayed with tears. He humbled himself and repented of his pride. God saw his tears and could not hold back His compassion. He sent Isaiah back to Hezekiah "Go, and say to Hezekiah... I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years." Hallelujah!.

? The God that did it for Hezekiah is still alive. He changes not. If only you can call upon Him in repentance and humility your situation will be turned around for good in the mighty name of Jesus.

?Apart from Hezekiah, there was a woman in the Bible who was desperate in prayers and she was handsomely rewarded.

Her name was Hannah and the account of her prayer is recorded in the book of 1Samueul chapter one:

📖1 Samuel 1:5 But unto Hannah, he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb. 1:6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret because the LORD had shut up her womb. 1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

?Her situation was similar to that of Hezekiah. She was permanently confined to barrenness "because the LORD had shut her womb" But Hannah manifested the life of faith and did not allow her challenge to hinder her from serving the Lord. Don't allow your condition to prevent you from rendering quality service unto the Lord. We are redeemed to serve God unconditionally. Do not make your problem the central focus of your relationship with the Lord

?Hannah was propelled by her challenge and her adversary to engage in desperate prayer.

She withdrew herself from the comfort zone of her comforting husband, into a place of personal prayer pouring out her heart to her Creator. She agonized in prayer that word could not express her deep feelings. Only her mouth was in motion but the word could not be uttered.

Her heartfelt prayer resulted in weeping. Just like Hezekiah "she wept sore"!.as she prayed

📖1 Samuel 1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. 1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt gives unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
