Biblical Examples of the Impossible Made Possible
The Bible consistently affirms that with God, all things are possible. This fundamental principle is woven throughout scripture, showcasing the limitless power and capability of our Creator. From creation to redemption, the pages of the Bible are filled with examples of the impossible becoming possible through God's divine intervention. Here are seven compelling examples that demonstrate the omnipotence of God.
1. Creation Out of Nothing
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth out of nothing (Genesis 1:1). This act of creation is the ultimate demonstration of God's power to bring into being what did not exist. The universe, with all its complexity and beauty, is a testament to God's ability to accomplish the impossible.
2. The Parting of the Red Sea
As the Israelites fled from slavery in Egypt, they found themselves trapped between the sea and the pursuing Egyptian army. But God, through Moses, stretched out his rod, and the Red Sea parted, allowing the Israelites to cross safely (Exodus 14:13-31). This miraculous event showcases God's control over nature and His ability to create a way out of seemingly impossible situations.
3. The Conception of Isaac
Sarah, Abraham's wife, was barren and past childbearing age, yet God promised Abraham that she would bear a son (Genesis 18:10-14). Despite the impossibility of this situation, Sarah conceived Isaac, demonstrating God's power to overcome human limitations and fulfill His promises.
4. The Victory at Jericho
The city of Jericho was impenetrable, surrounded by massive walls that seemed insurmountable. However, when the Israelites, led by Joshua, marched around the city, blowing their trumpets and shouting, the walls of Jericho collapsed (Joshua 6:1-27). This miraculous victory highlights God's ability to achieve the impossible through the obedience of His people.
5. The Healing of the Blind Man
In the Gospel of John, we read the story of a man born blind, whom Jesus healed with a simple application of mud and water (John 9:1-41). This miracle not only restored the man's sight but also demonstrated Jesus' divine authority and power to overcome physical limitations.
6. The Resurrection of Lazarus
Jesus' friend Lazarus had died, and his body had been in the tomb for four days. Yet, when Jesus called out to Lazarus, the deceased man emerged from the tomb, alive and restored (John 11:1-44). This remarkable event showcases Jesus' power over death itself, demonstrating that with God, even the most impossible situations can be reversed.
7. The Salvation of the Thief on the Cross
As Jesus hung on the cross, a repentant thief, also crucified alongside Him, asked for mercy. Despite his life of sin and his current state of suffering, Jesus promised the thief, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). This extraordinary act of forgiveness and redemption highlights God's ability to transform even the most hardened hearts and offer salvation to those who seem beyond redemption.
These examples from the Bible illustrate the boundless power and possibilities available through God. They remind us that our limitations are not His, and that with faith and obedience, even the most impossible situations can become opportunities for divine intervention and transformation. As Jesus said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26).
