The importance of following God's guidance and the blessings that come from obedience to His word.

Introduction

Good morning, family. Today, we’re going to journey back in time, down the old paths, as we immerse ourselves in the word of God from the book of Jeremiah 16:9.

"For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in this place."

Our theme today is all about God's guidance in our lives and the blessings that come from obedience to His word. As we tread on this path, we will find that it's not a new one, but rather, an old path that has been tread by many faithful followers before us.

Henry Blackaby once wrote, "If you know that God loves you, you should never question a directive from Him. It will always be right and best. When He gives you a directive, you are not just to observe it, discuss it, or debate it. You are to obey it." Like Blackaby, we too need to choose the path of obedience.

Let's bow our heads in prayer.

Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for the wisdom and guidance found in Your word. As we delve into the teachings of Jeremiah, we pray for an understanding heart and a receptive spirit. Help us to walk in the old paths, to heed Your guidance, and to experience the blessings of obedience. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

So folks, let's buckle up and get ready for this enlightening journey down the old paths... because there's a lot to uncover and discover. Let's get started!

The Old Paths

The Old Paths, as we have come to understand them, represent the timeless wisdom and guidance that God has provided for us in His word. These paths are not new or innovative; they are ancient, well-trodden routes that have been followed by countless faithful believers throughout history. They are the paths of righteousness, the ways of wisdom, and the roads of obedience to God's commandments.

Often overlooked in our modern world: Newness and innovation are highly valued. We are constantly bombarded with the latest trends, the newest technologies, and the most recent ideas. In such a fast-paced environment, it's easy to forget the timeless wisdom that God has provided for us in His word. But the Old Paths are not outdated or irrelevant; they are as applicable today as they were thousands of years ago.

Paths of simplicity: In a world that is increasingly complex and confusing, the Old Paths offer a straightforward and uncomplicated way to live. They don't require us to have advanced degrees or sophisticated understanding. All they require is a humble and obedient heart, willing to follow God's guidance and live according to His commandments.

Paths of blessing: God has promised that those who follow His commandments and walk in His ways will be blessed. This doesn't necessarily mean that we will be free from hardship or suffering. But it does mean that we will experience the peace, joy, and fulfillment that come from living in alignment with God's will.

Paths of transformation: As we walk in these paths, we are not merely following a set of rules or regulations. We are being transformed into the image of Christ. We are becoming more like Him in our character and conduct. We are learning to love as He loves, to forgive as He forgives, and to serve as He serves.

Not always easy to follow: They often require us to go against the flow of society, to resist the temptations of the world, and to endure the ridicule and rejection of those who don't understand or appreciate our commitment to God's ways. But the rewards of walking in the Old Paths far outweigh the challenges and difficulties we may face.

The book of Jeremiah: God calls His people to return to the Old Paths, to the good way, and walk in it. He promises that they will find rest for their souls if they do so. This is a promise that still holds true for us today. If we choose to walk in the Old Paths, we will find rest, peace, and fulfillment in our relationship with God.
