The New You

Do you remember as a child the "if" statements your parents made?

Or as a parent some of the "ifs" you placed on someone else?

The conditions set for you to complete a task.

You would ask, May I.......

go fishing/Clean room

go to friends/Clean house

Christmas presents/ if good.

Today’s scripture passages remind us of the condition placed in you if you have Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

The texts starts out with this IF, then you have been raised with Christ...

1. When were you placed in Christ, salvation

2. Why Christ is in you. Holy Spirit.

(Reveal, Comfort, Teach, Guide, Remind)

3. How you were raised with Jesus. (death, burial, resurrection)

Because of what Jesus did on the cross, and your faith in Him for eternal life, then you are a new person and your life is to be an example of Jesus to people.

READ Colassians 3:1-4

The new you is a person who seeks the things above.

I. Seek the Things Above.

A) Keep on seeking, continual action.

Lost remote control.

God said, "Seek Me with all your heart and you shall find Me"

B) Seek Christ like things.

1. Learn as much as possible Jesus.

2. Love as many people as Jesus.

3. Lead people to Jesus.

C) What are the things above we can seek?

Read verse 12-13

This is the example of a "new you" as person who seeks the things above.

Your life is set as an example of Jesus.

II. Set your life on the things Above.

A) Set your mind on earthly things and Christ like things will soon be forgotten.

1. World news

2. Better things, house, car, boat, money.......

3. Sports - quote more statistics than scripture.

4. Troubles, Sorrow, Hate, Revenge

B) Set your mind on heavenly things and earthly things will soon be forgotten.

1. Reading the Bible

2. Praying always

3. Serving the Lord

4. Testimonies of Jesus

C) Things that are not heavenly. Read verses 5-9

-Evidence that you are not setting your mind on the things above.

-If these characteristics are in you, Then ask yourself, "Is my lifestyle evidence that I have been raised with Christ?"

D) Things that are heavenly. Read Philippians 4:8-9

-Evidence that you are setting your mind on the things above.

-Characteristics in you, that reveal, "Your lifestyle is evidence that you have been raised with Christ"

Change in life because you have died and your life is no longer yours to live. Jesus Christ purchased you with His blood and His life to bring about a "New You".

Commitment - Seek

Determination - Set

When Jesus does return you will be secure in your mind and life that Jesus will bring glory upon you.

III. Secure when Jesus Comes From Above.

A) Jesus revealed His life to us through the scriptures.

Old & New Testament

Recorded word.

Instruction manual.

B) Jesus life revealed through you.

Holy Spirit empowered -

For God did not give a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind 2 Timothy 1:7

Fruits of the Spirit.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self control.

Will bring people to Jesus.

C) Revealed with Jesus in glory.

Your life an image of Jesus.

Picture, your the image of your father, your the image of your mother.

When has a person said, your the image of Jesus Christ?

Seek the things above.

Set your mind on the things above.

Secure when Jesus comes from above.
