The Mechanics of a Miracle

Part 2 “The Name of Jesus”

Lakewood Church of God | Pastor Jonathan Vorce | 11-27-2016

Introduction

Last week we talked about Faith & Boldness

Today I want to talk with you about the authority that we have in the name of Jesus!

Name means identity and authority

We used to sing a song in church called “In the Name of Jesus… (we have the victory)

I. The NAME of Jesus - Philippians 2:9-11

A. The Meaning Of The Name - By its very definition, the name of Jesus speaks about salvation. The name means, "Jehovah Is Salvation."

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

B. The Price Of The Name - According to Philippians 2:5-8, this man named Jesus climbed Calvary and died for all men. He humbled Himself and He

died in the sinner's place.

Philippians 2:5-8

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

C. The Power Of The Name - These verses carry the sense that they are speaking to us about a man who is yet alive. Folks, we do not hang our futures,

base our hopes or exalt the name of one who is dead. No, our Savior lives!

Philippians 2:9-11

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Matthew 28:1-6

1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the

sepulchre.

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door,

and sat upon it.

3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

II. There is HEALING in the name of Jesus

A. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John record at least 35 healing miracles Jesus performed.

B. Luke 7:1-10 - The Centurion’s servant healed - BY FAITH

C. Mark 16:17-18 - Jesus said if we lay hands on the sick “in His name” they will be healed!

III. There is DELIVERANCE in the name of Jesus.

A. Jesus cast the devil out of at least 6 people that we know of. (Jesus is real, the devil is real and so is Exorcism). - Luke 4:38-41 (Read)

1. Luke 4:41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to

speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.

B. Acts 7:55 - Stephen saw Jesus seated at the right hand of God. (A place of power and authority)

Matthew 28:18-20 - KJV

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

C. Jesus has given us power over all the works of the enemy.

Luke 10:17-20 - KJV

17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
