Summary: The mission of Jesus was to save that which is lost and it is still His mission and it should be ours also.
Luke 4:14-21 The Mission of Our Lord
1. Jesus returns to Galilee After The Temptation and returns in the Power of the Spirit
• He returned from the time of testing (The Temptation) led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him
• When one faces struggle we are bettered by it. Theologian Clark says, “He who, through the grace of God, resists and overcomes temptation, is always bettered by it.” This is one of the wonders of God’s grace, that those very things which are designed for our utter ruin he makes the instruments of our greatest good
2. The Mission of our Lord is an everyday affair . norm, habit, every day thing
• Jesus had a custom And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. Jesus custom was toto get together with Gods People for worship
• Jesus made the house of worship a habit
• His Mission is living the faith every day it’s a practice done every day of the life of our lord.
• The Mission of our Lord is to anoint, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me
• The word “anoint” means to rub or sprinkle on; apply an ointment, or oily liquid to. Persons in the Old Testament were often anointed with oil. priests were anointed for special service
3. His Mission To preach, to heal, to bring liberty, to give sight, to forgive and remove sin
• To preach the gospel to the poor: Sin weakens, but the Messiah brings news that strengthens
• To heal the brokenhearted: Sin breaks hearts, but Messiah fixes our hearts
• To proclaim liberty to the captives: Sin enslaves people, but Messiah comes to set them free.
• Recovery of sight to the blind: Sin blinds but, Messiah heals our spiritual blindness.
• His Mission To set at liberty those who are oppressed: Sin oppresses its victims, and the Messiah comes to bring liberty to the oppressed.
4. Our Lords Mission is to Proclaim the Acceptable Year of The Lord Its Jubilee
• The year of Jubilee slaves were set free, debts cancelled, and things set to a new start.
• Isaiah claimed 2this is the year of the LORD's favor it the day to comfort those who mourn. This is the year to have a crown of beauty instead of ashes, oils of gladness instead of mourning and wear the garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
5. Finally, his Mission was to offer fulfillment of Scriptures as the coming Messiah
• Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing: With these words Jesus answered two questions. “Whom did Isaiah write of?” Jesus answered, “Isaiah wrote of Me.”“When will this come to pass?” Jesus answered, “Isaiah wrote of now.” 18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, he has anointed me to preach good news. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
• Jesus is He is Abel’s lamb the Acceptable Sacrifice, Noah’s Ark He’s the ark that saves , David’s Good Shepherd Yes He is my shepherd,
• Christ came to save the sinners—to eat with them, talk with them, and show them God's love
• Jesus feels no one is to sinful that they can’t be forgiven, that they can be accepted, that they can be pardoned, they can be released from the bondages of disease and sin!
• Let us Pray: “May the strength of God pilot us; May the wisdom of God instruct us,
• May the hand of God protect us, May the word of God direct us. My God Be always ours this day and forevermore.
