The Miracle of Raising the Widow’s Only Son

Luke 7:11-17

Miracles # 15

Lessons that we can learn form this miracle.

I. When Jesus was on earth he had true believers (Disciples) and non believers (the crowd) that followed him.

I believe today that not al people who are church member are saved. I really believe that many people who are church members, been baptized and take the Lord’s Supper know they are lost. They are just here the social part of a church. To say they belong to a certain church.

There are some who are church members, baptized and take the Lord’s Supper and they are sincere but have never really accepted Jesus a there Lord and Savior. It is not that you do not remember the words or the date but there was no surrender, there was not change. They are good people moral, friendly, and good workers in the church but they have never accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

And there are those who are saved.

They are the true disciples. They have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and they have been changed.

II. Jesus has compassion on people who are hurting.

A. He has Compassion for the lost world.

Matthew 9:36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

B. He has Compassion on the sick.

Matthew 14:14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

Matthew 20:34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

Mark 1:41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

C. He has compassion on those who were hungry

Matthew 15:32 Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”

D. He has compassion on those who had been demon possessed

Mark 5:19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”

E. He has compassion on those who had lost someone due to death.

NOTE: Let me ask a question. Do we have that type of Compassion today? Do we have compassion on those who have lost loved ones? Do we have compassion on those who are sick? Do we have compassion on people who are hungry? Do we have compassion on people who have gone through difficulties in life, divorce, financial problems, drugs or alcohol abuse? Do we have compassion on those who have sinned such as in abortion, homosexuality, Adultery? Do we have compassion on those who are lost?

I believe that true compassion is lacking in our churches today. I am not saying it is totally gone but it is lacking there are times when we show compassion and then there are those time when he show distain. We are to hate the sin never the sinner. We are to rebuke the sinful lifestyle but love the life.

III. Jesus has the power over death.

A. He has the power over physical death.

NOTE: Jesus can still heal people. And He still does when it is in His perfect will. Sickness can teach us things. It can give us more time to do the things that God wants us to do, it gives us the opportunities to share his love.

B. Jesus has the power of spiritual death.

Jesus is the only one that has power over spiritual death. He is the only one that can save you from eternity in Hell and the Lake of Fire.

IV. Jesus’ presence and power ought to bring reverent fear and widespread proclamation
