Over the last few decades Americans has been hit hard with a big idea that is summed up in one word – “Change”! From politics to health care, from social security to education, from the economy to morality, “change” is the operative word! And isn’t it interesting that we HATE change!

Change has even hit people in their view of eschatology = the study of end times. It’s amazing to me how many people have apocalyptic thinking on their minds!

U.S. News & World Report poll revealed, “60% of Americans believe that the world eventually ends.”

Newsmax recently wrote, “If you mix the morning headlines into the average American’s eschatology you stir up a powerful brew.”

Doesn’t it seem like over the 10 years it’s one crisis after another, one threat after another, one disaster after another? From wars, plagues, storms, riots and killings – life on planet earth has been anything but business as usual! Are we at a tipping point? Is the grand finale of life on earth about to play out before our eyes?

Is 12.21.12 the year that the comic clock ticks for the last time? Huge question!

Some are saying that the earth will be hit by a new planet that NASA has just found, known as “Planet X” in 2012. SLIDE In 1983 Planet X was 50 billion miles away from us, but in 2000 Planet X was 7 million miles away.

The New York Post wrote in 2010, “According to many, the Planet X flyby will trigger a cosmic train wreck that will kill most of the earth’s population…”

So what’s all the hype about December 21, 2012? A couple of things…First, it marks the end of the 5000 year cycle by the Mayan calendar. These ancient timekeepers seem to bring their cosmic clock to an end at date.

Secondly, factor in that on the same day, it falls on the winter solstice that marks the first time in more than 5000 years that the galactic aliment of the sun and earth with the center of the Milky Way Galaxy will occur! Many believe that this crossing of the great galactic equator will cause the earth’s poles to reverse and then all hell will break out on this planet as the movie “2012” portrayed… VIDEO

• Did you know this movie was a 200 million blockbuster in 2010!

• Just Google “2012” and “disaster” and you get over 2.5 million results!

• SLIDE: In 2009, 1 out of 8 Americans believed that some kind of apocalyptic event will happen in December 21, 2012.

• Newsweek wrote, “The belief that the year 2012 will mark a global transformation is widespread.”

Even television has jumped on the ratings bonanza! The History Channel has already had 3 programs about this date. Did you know that you can get an IPone App that gives you a countdown to December 21, 2010?

Even rappers are getting in on this craze. Well known rapper Lil Wayne also known as “Wheezy” said after reading up on the Mayan calendar, “The world is about to end in 2012. I got encyclopedias on the bus…You can see it already. A planet doesn’t exist – there’s no more Pluto. Planes are flying into buildings – and not just the Twin Towers. Mosquitoes bite you and you die. And a black man and a woman are running for president.”

Now I really believe were in trouble!

So what about all this? Is there something going down in 2012?

To Answer That Let’s Look At The Mayan Mystery…

The Mayans began as an off shoot from another civilization around 500 B.C. and lasted until about 900A.D. in Mexico and Central America. They were primitive in all their ways except in astronomy and architecture. What’s amazing about the Mayan is that of all the doomsday cults of history, they are the only ones who connect their prophecies to their calendar.

Their calendar starts at August 12, 3114 B.C. and ends 5,125 years later on December 21, 2012 A.D.

PICTURE: Building temples and pyramids to their chief god and this pyramid is a very sophisticated 3D calendar. The pyramid of Kuk/ul/kan - has four sides that represents the four seasons. Each side has 91 steps, adding the platform at the top as a final step to total 365 steps - one for every day of the year.

But the amazing thing about this – at 3:00pm in the spring and autumn equinox light and shadow on the north steps forms a serpent’s long body and connects with its head at the base of the pyramid going down into the earth. SLIDE

The Mayans worshiped over 80 gods that fought among themselves for certain territory! Archaeology has discovered that there was a high rate of suicide among the people. And it was seen as an honor to take your own life; and their goddess for suicide was named “Ixtab” and this is what this god looked like. SLIDE
