Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon explores the divine design of marriage, emphasizing its role as a sacred covenant reflecting Christ's love for the church.
Greetings, beloved family of God. As we gather here today, let's allow our hearts to be filled to overflowing with the love of Christ, the love that binds us together as one body, one church, and one family. We are here to celebrate that love, to learn from it, and to let it guide us in our relationships, particularly in the sacred covenant of marriage. Unlike what our culture would tell us, marriage is not merely a human institution. It is a divine design, a holy covenant that reflects the profound mystery of Christ's love for His church.
The first thing we need to understand is that marriage is a gift from God. It's not something we invented. It's something God created. And He created it for a purpose. He created it to reflect His love, His commitment, His covenant with us. When we honor God in our marriages, we're saying to the world, "Look, this is what God's love looks like. This is what His commitment looks like. This is what His covenant with us looks like."
Now, let's think about what it means to reflect God's love in our marriages. Love is more than a feeling. It's a choice. It's a commitment. It's a way of life. And it's not always easy. But it's always worth it. Because love is what God is all about. God is love. And when we love each other in our marriages, we're showing the world what God is like. We're showing the world that God is love.
But it's also about respect. Respect is a big part of honoring God in marriage. When we respect each other, we're saying, "I see you. I value you. I honor you." And that's a powerful message. It's a message that says, "You matter. You're important. You're loved." And that's a message that the world needs to hear.
And then there's the idea of commitment. Commitment is a big deal in marriage. It's what keeps us together when times are tough. It's what keeps us going when the going gets tough. And it's what makes our marriages strong. When we're committed to each other, we're saying, "I'm here for you. I'm not going anywhere. I'm in this for the long haul." And that's a powerful message. It's a message that says, "You can count on me. You can trust me. I'm here for you."
And finally, there's the idea of covenant. Covenant is a powerful word. It's a word that speaks of a bond that can't be broken. It's a word that speaks of a promise that can't be broken. And it's a word that speaks of a love that can't be broken. When we live out our marriages as a covenant, we're saying, "This is more than a contract. This is a covenant. This is a promise that can't be broken. This is a love that can't be broken." And that's a powerful message. It's a message that says, "This is what God's love looks like. This is what His commitment looks like. This is what His covenant with us looks like."
