The Mark Of A True Christian. Series

Matthew 28:18-20, John 13:34-35

What does it mean to be a Christian? Is it just a label, a title, or a cultural identity? The Bible gives us a clear answer. A Christian is not just someone who claims to believe, but someone who lives out their faith in a way that honors God and transforms their life.

The Great Commission:

In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives His disciples a mandate: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This is the call to be a Christian – to follow Jesus, to be discipled by Him, and to make disciples of others.

The New Commandment:

In John 13:34-35, Jesus gives us a new commandment: "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." This is the mark of a Christian – not just belief, but love. Love for God, love for others, and love for the world around us.

The Characteristics of a Christian

So, what are the characteristics of a Christian? According to the Bible, a Christian is someone who:

- Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (John 17:3)

- Lives according to God's Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

- Loves God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30)

- Loves their neighbors as themselves (Mark 12:31)

- Forgives others and seeks forgiveness (Matthew 6:14-15)

- Serves others and seeks to bless them (Matthew 20:26-28)

- Shares the Gospel with others (Matthew 28:18-20)

Being a Christian is not just a label or a title. It's a way of life. It's a life of love, obedience, and service. It's a life that honors God and transforms the world around us. So, let us examine our lives and ask ourselves: Are we living as Christians? Are we loving as Jesus loved? Are we serving as Jesus served? May we be known by our love, and may we be faithful disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Calling yourself a Christian doesn't make you one, living like Christ does. Faith without works is dead, and a lifestyle that contradicts the teachings of Jesus can't be reconciled with a true Christian faith.

As Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21).

It's important to remember that being a Christian is not just about identifying with the label, but about living a life that reflects the teachings and values of Jesus Christ.
