The Mantel Of Elijah
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.
6 And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse."
17 "He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ?to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,? and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Introduction
11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, ?My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!? And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart.
13 He picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
A Mantel of Faith
14 Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it. ?Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?? he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.
43 ?Go and look toward the sea,? he told his servant. And he went up and looked.
?There is nothing there,? he said.
Seven times Elijah said, ?Go back.?
44 The seventh time the servant reported, ?A cloud as small as a man?s hand is rising from the sea.?
So Elijah said, ?Go and tell Ahab, ?Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.??
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.
A Mantel of Authority
21 Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, ?This is what the LORD says: ?I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.??
1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, ?As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.?
1 Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
A Mantel of Power
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. ?Go on up, you baldhead!? they said. ?Go on up, you baldhead!? 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.
10 Elijah answered the captain, ?If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!? Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men.
11 At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him, ?Man of God, this is what the king says, ?Come down at once!??
12 ?If I am a man of God,? Elijah replied, ?may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!? Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.
4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
A Mantel of Restoration
5 As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head
fell into the water. ?Oh, my lord,? he cried out, ?it was borrowed!?
6 The man of God asked, ?Where did it fall?? When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float.
37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.?
10 And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored as
