Explore the profound truth of Jesus Christ as our only Savior, the rest we can find in Him, and the danger of rejecting Him.
Good morning, church family! Today, we're going to be diving into the beautiful and powerful words of Isaiah 9:6.
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
This verse speaks of a man, not just any man, but The Man of Isaiah 9:6; our Savior, Jesus Christ. We're going to unpack the rest we can find in Him and the danger of rejecting Him.
Christian author A.W. Tozer once said, "Jesus is not one of many ways to approach God, nor is He the best of several ways; He is the only way." And that's the truth we'd like to explore today.
Let's pray.
Father God, we thank you for this day and for the opportunity to gather and dive into Your Word. We ask for Your guidance as we explore the text of Isaiah. Open our hearts and minds so that we may fully grasp the profound truth of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us understand the rest that can only be found in Him and make us aware of the danger of rejecting Him. We ask all these in your precious name, Amen.
Let's dive in.
The Man of Isaiah 9:6 is none other than Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. This verse is a prophecy about the coming of Jesus, and it is filled with rich descriptions of who He is and what He would accomplish. It is a verse that is often read during Christmas time, as it speaks of the birth of a child, a son, who would carry the government on His shoulders. This is a clear reference to Jesus, who was born in Bethlehem, and who would later take on the sins of the world, carrying the weight of our transgressions on His shoulders.
Four powerful titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Each of these titles reveals a different aspect of Jesus's character and His role in our lives.
Wonderful Counselor: As this, Jesus provides wisdom and guidance to those who seek Him. He is the source of all truth, and He offers counsel that is always right and just. When we are lost or confused, we can turn to Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor, for direction.
Mighty God: This title emphasizes Jesus's divinity. He is not just a man, but God Himself, who came down to earth in human form. This is a profound mystery, but it is a truth that we can hold onto with confidence. Jesus, the Mighty God, has all power and authority. He conquered sin and death, and He is able to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.
Everlasting Father: As this, Jesus shows us the heart of God the Father. He cares for us as a father cares for his children. He loves us unconditionally, and He is always there for us. His fatherhood is everlasting, which means that His love for us is eternal. It does not end, and it does not change. We can rest in the assurance of His unchanging love.
Prince of Peace: As this, Jesus brings peace to those who trust in Him. This is not the kind of peace that the world gives, which is temporary and superficial. The peace that Jesus gives is deep and lasting. It is a peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that comes from knowing that we are reconciled with God and that we have a secure future in heaven.
A wonderful Savior: He is all that we need, and He offers us rest in Him. When we trust in Him, we can experience His wisdom, His power, His love, and His peace. We can find rest in Him, knowing that He is in control and that He is working all things for our good.
Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about when you first came to know Jesus and how it changed your life. What does these titles mean to you?
