Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores God's everlasting love, His victory over death, and His promise of deliverance, emphasizing His constant presence and guidance in our lives.
Greetings, beloved congregation, I stand before you today, not as a preacher, but as a fellow traveler, walking hand in hand with each of you on the path that leads us to our Heavenly Father. As we gather here today, let us remember that we are not alone, for our God is with us, and He is guiding us, teaching us, and loving us unconditionally.
Our Scripture today is Jeremiah 31:3-4,
"The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful.'"
In these verses, we find ourselves standing on sacred ground, witnessing the love of God that is as vast as the universe and as intimate as a whisper. This divine love, my dear friends, is not a fleeting emotion, but an everlasting commitment. It's a love that builds us up when we are broken, a love that leads us to dance with joy even in the midst of our trials.
When we think about the love of God, it's easy to picture it as something distant and abstract. But the truth is, God's love is not just a concept, it's a reality that we can experience every day. It's a love that reaches out to us, that draws us close, that wraps us in its embrace. It's a love that is always there, always ready to welcome us back, no matter how far we've strayed.
Not something we often encounter in our human relationships: Our human love is often conditional, dependent on how the other person treats us, or how they make us feel. But God's love is different. It's a love that is constant, unchanging, and unconditional. It's a love that is always there, no matter what we do or don't do. This is the kind of love that God has for us. It's a love that is so deep, so wide, so high, that we can't fully comprehend it. But we can experience it. We can feel it. We can know it. And when we do, it changes everything.
The world around us: We can see evidence of God's love everywhere. We see it in the beauty of nature, in the kindness of strangers, in the laughter of children. We see it in the way that God provides for our needs, in the way that He guides us and protects us, in the way that He comforts us in times of sorrow.
The greatest display of God's love: It’s found in the person of Jesus Christ. In Jesus, we see God's love in human form. We see a love that is willing to leave the comforts of heaven to live among us, to share in our joys and our sorrows, to heal our wounds and to bear our burdens. We see a love that is willing to lay down its life for us, to pay the price for our sins, to offer us forgiveness and hope. This is the love that God has for us. It's a love that is powerful, personal, and profound. It's a love that is always there, always reaching out to us, always ready to welcome us back. It's a love that is as vast as the universe and as intimate as a whisper. It's a love that is everlasting.
This love changes us: It softens our hearts, it opens our eyes, it fills us with joy and peace. It gives us a new perspective, a new purpose, a new passion. It gives us the courage to face our fears, the strength to overcome our challenges, the hope to keep going even when the road is tough.
