The Lord would repay you!

2 Samuel 16:12 “It may be that the LORD will look on the wrong done to me, and that the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing today."

Did you know people will throw rocks at you when you are already bruised and bent? Yes, they would! Barbs were thrown at the already beleaguered and shattered David, he had suffered: the loss of power, the disintegration of family, the threat to royal rule and most painful was the animosity and murderous threats of his own beloved son Absalom. Something worse than this cannot happen to David! Now look what happens to him, a man called Shimei came and cursed David continually, threw stones at David and said ‘Get out, get out, you man of blood, you worthless man!’ Then he says something that would go deep into the crevices of his heart and make David bleed,’ the LORD has given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom.’

I’m sure such words spoken at such a time of grief and agony must have totally devastated David, yet; look at his reply,” the LORD will look on the wrong done to me, and that the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing today." Wow! Let this message fall like dew on you and heal your wounds! Let the words of king David heal our scars and help us to forgive people! Goodness and mercy will follow you as you endure the heat of curses today! Are you listening? Glory to Jesus!

There are many out there who are suffering for no reason or no fault done by them, think of the children who are suffering because of divorced parents, the orphaned kids and the women who are abused physically and mentally. God remembers the ‘wrong done to them!’ I happen to be witness of a young couple who had come for counselling to an AIDS Center where my husband and I had gone as volunteers. The wife had tested positive for AIDS because she had married a man with AIDS, she had been cheated and her life destroyed. I would never forget the grief-stricken face of the young woman! Sadly, Jesus was not offered in that organization but look what David said, ‘ the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing today!’ Here is how we get comforted! Give Him all the glory, honor and praise! He is our Comforter!

After several days of fasting, hectic praying and preparation for the meeting, we had conducted a three days revival camp for the raising up for soldiers for Christ. On the last day, tired and exhausted, while I was preaching, a woman from the local neighborhood, daringly walked into the church, stood in front of the pulpit and cursed my husband and me. She cursed us continually, after she was tactfully taken out of the church and brought down, I saw many hands from all directions of the neighborhood point towards me, grind their teeth in disgust and speak harsh words. Did I have the courage to face such bitterness and hatred? The answer would be a firm ‘no!’ I expected pats on my back and applause for the efforts of fasting and praying but I received rocks and curses instead! How do we handle such situations? Friend, wait upon God! You would be rewarded! After such heavy blows, I have always received heavy rewards! Many of our ministries and projects have been birthed after such attacks from the devil. As a child of God, we got to learn to accept mockery and criticism in good spirit and depend on God to handle the issues. Nothing comes out of flexing the muscles and fighting tit for tat. You lose His presence! True joy is in enduring the heat!
