I. EXORDIUM:

Have you submitted yourself before to someone you don't know even to the point of death.

IV. TEXT:

Matthew 26:63-64

63 But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I demand in the name of the living God—tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

64 Jesus replied, “You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.

Pray that our submission and meekness will be like that of the LORD, let the LORD be our model in meekness and submission.

V. THESIS:

The LORD is our Infinite and Ultimate and Absolute model of submission and meekness.

VI. TITLE:

The LORD's Submission and Meekness

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: Matthew or Levi, one of the 12 Apostles - a tax collector or a publican

C. Audience: Jews

D. Purpose: To show that JESUS is the Kingly Messiah of Jewish Prophecy.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. The LORD is our example in submission and meekness:

1. In His actions - silent (Matthew 26:63)

Matthew 26:63

But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I demand in the name of the living God—tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.

- The LORD remained silent.

32 The passage of Scripture he had been reading was this: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter. And as a lamb is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

33 He was humiliated and received no justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.

= Of all the animals, pigs cry, dogs bite, cats will scratch, only the lamb will not make a sound, it will not hurt you when you kill it. It faithfully and meekly submits himself to the shearer and even up to death, it will not make a sound.

2. In His Words, He submitted in GOD's Name (Matthew 26:64)

Jesus replied, “You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.

a. "Yes, it is as you say.

b. He never rebelled in Caiphas front.

c. He never answered back.

d. He never argued.

3. In His revelation of the truth (Matthew 26:64)

Jesus replied, “You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

a. "And in the future..."

b. The Lord JESUS Himself is the Truth. (John 1:14, John 1:17)

John 1:14

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

John 1:17

For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

c. In one sitting, He opened His heart to Caiaphas, He told several things to the high priest: (crash course)

(1) He is the Messiah, the Son of GOD

(2) Truth of His Second Coming

(3) Truth of His Coming Glory

(4) Truth of His Position or Place in Heaven - Right Hand of GOD

(5) Truth of His Coming back - the rapture

B. False authority figure with false commands:

1. All they are = talk with no power or authority

- the WORD of GOD is not just words. (1 Thessalonians 1:5)

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you.

synagogue is not instituted in the Old Testament, and high priest Caiaphas is not a Levite.

2. All they have - are false commands.

"I demand in the name..."

a. Caiaphas missed eternal life:

b. Caiaphas missed the Giver of Life

c. Caiaphas missed the Creator of heaven and earth

d. Caiaphas missed GOD.

3. All they react - rebellion against GOD

a. "blasphemy" (Matthew 26:65)

Matthew 26:65

Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, “Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy.

b. Caiaphas commanded GOD when GOD should be the One commanding Him.
