Psalm 47: 1-9 The LORD our King

God had moved against the Assyrians, killing 185,000 in the night.

I. The Grace in His Provision - (1-4)

A. Their Rejoicing -

The Reality of their Joy - 1 O clap your hands,

The Reach of their Joy - all ye people;

The Reason of their Joy - shout unto God

The Reassurance of their Joy - with the voice of triumph.

B. Their Reverence -

His Person - 2 For the LORD most high

His Power - is terrible;

His Position - he is a great King

His Preeminence - over all the earth.

C. Their Reward -

It's Source - 3 He shall subdue

It's Surety - the people under us,

It's Sufficiency - and the nations under our feet.

D. Their Redemption -

Divine - 4 He shall choose

Direct - our inheritance for us,

Distinct - the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.

II. The Glory in His Position (5-8) –

A. His Redemption -

His Valour - 5 God is gone up with a shout,

His Virtue - the LORD

His Victory - with the sound of a trumpet.

B. His Recognition -

His Sacred Position - 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises:

His Sovereign Position - sing praises unto our King, sing praises.

His Solitary Position - 7 For God is the King of all the earth:

His Secure Position - sing ye praises with understanding.

C. His Reign -

A Heavenly Reign - 8 God reigneth

A High Reign - over the heathen:

A Holy Reign - God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

III. The Goal in His Preparation (9)

D. His Revelation -

9 The princes of the people are gathered together even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.
