Summary: God really does not need anything or does God need us?
“The Lord Needs It” Luke 19:28-40
1. Palm Sunday begins today as we are entering Holy Week. The Text tells us
• Jesus and his disciples were on the road to Jerusalem, the nation’s capital.
• He sent two disciples into a village ahead of them, telling them that they would find a colt that had never been ridden.
• The colt that Jesus wanted was a symbol of peace, not war. “Untie it,” said Jesus, “and bring it here” (Luke 19:30).
• As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord needs it” (vv. 32-34). The owners immediately released the colt. The owner knew some how that “The Lord Needed it”.
2. The Disciples bring the Colt to Jesus
• The disciples threw their cloaks on it to make a saddle, and set Jesus on it.
• Luke tells us, “As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road” (v. 36).
• Notice what is missing from Luke’s story: Palms. Matthew tells us that people “cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road” (21:8). Mark says that people “spread leafy branches” (11:8), and John reports that they “took branches of palm trees” (12:13).
• Luke is not interested in palms.
3. The Gospel writer Luke may not be interested in Palms but He is interested in Needs
• However, just like Jesus needed the colt to fulfill the prophecies about Palm Sunday, God is self-sufficient and has need of nothing. But, God has chosen to need us.
• We don’t think of God or Jesus having needs but in the story today. In the story the owner asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord needs it”
• The king needs us because He Loves People so much he wants to give us eternal life
4. The Lord needs us to be Faithful
• In the Beginning God wanted Adam and Eve to be with him forever, but sin ruined that, but God still wants us to be with Him forever.
• God needs us to be Faithful so we can have the eternal life Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
5. God needs us so we can have fellowship with Him.
• John says that Jesus told us Abide in me and I will abide in you.
• The text today God wants fellowship The text says “Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!”39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40 “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.
6. Finally, God does have needs and those Needs surrounds People
• God Needs Us So He can Love us For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
• God Needs Us to be Faithful. So we will be a blessing to others 38Whoever believes in me, asC the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."
• God Needs us so we can have fellowship with God If we are faithful to God he awakes with us, He walks with us in good times and bad times, If were faithful we know He is present
• God needs us forever.
