Title: The Life Training of David?

Introduction:

Psalm 78:72

“And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”

What are you doing in life?

How are you doing?

Do we realize that what we do today, is somehow a preparation of God in us, for the future big or great task for us.

Just like in the Life of David, he was simply a boy tendering his father's sheep, but little did he know that, his early life in the field or wilderness is the Lord's training for his life.

The Lord will not give you a task, you are not prepared for. Every step of the way is part of the Training.

We have to acknowledge God’s divine purpose, in order to realize it.

Acknowledge God in your work.

Acknowledge God in your Business

Acknowledge God in your studies

Acknowledge God In your ministry

Acknowledge God in your wife, family, children.

Acknowledge God in your finances

Acknowledge God in every and all areas of your life

How God train David to become the Best King of Israel? He was Extraordinary King of Israel in His time.

See The Story of David’s anointing as King , 1 Samuel 16:1-13

A. His Physical Training

David grew keeping his father’s flocks of sheep at the wilderness.

He grew up strong and brave, fighting wild beasts which prowled around and tried to take away his sheep. Many times he fought with lions, bears, and wild dogs in the field to protect his lambs of sheep. (1 Samuel 17:34-37)

He killed them all that attacked his sheep, beasts that may be stronger than him, bigger than him and swifter than him.

And many moments alone, practiced throwing stones in his sling, making sure of the stone he threw would go to the very spot at which he was throwing it.

Precision (that’s excellence) in his target.

Everything he did with a skillful hands and a brave heart.

Practice makes you precise and skillful;

Never underestimate Trainings; attend; look for it..

B. His Emotional Training

When people looked at him in his immature appearance. Only a boy.

They don’t know what’s inside of David.

On one occasion, David was look down by his brother Eliab, in front of many colleagues in the infantry. (3 Soldier Brothers Eliab, Abinadab, Shammah)

1 Samuel 17:28-29

28 When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”

29 “Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?”

On the same occasion, when Saul look down on him.

1 Samuel 17:32-33

32 David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”

33 Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”

On other occasion, when Goliath mocked him in front of the huge Army of Israel and the Philistines.

1 Samuel 17:42-44

42 He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. 43 He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”

As Paul said, 1 Timothy 4:12 ESV

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

His character was built up.

C. His Spiritual Training.

As early as a boy, David knows by heart the God of Israel

In the field, David spent alone tending the sheep, surviving in the wild, sleeping under the cover the darkness of night. Loneliness was his constant companion. And from it, he was able to create a lot of his psalms.

The Lord saw the heart of David, that is fitted to be the next King.

1 Samuel 16:12-13

12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.

Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David…

He learned to trust God, in everything, and in anything.
