The Last Sermon I'd Preach If I Knew I Would Die Today

Psalm 90:12

Psalm 90:12 tells us to number our days.

That is good advice for all of us. Preachers die too and should be aware life is so brief. What would I say if this was my last sermon?

I. THE FIRST PART OF MY SERMON WOULD BE TO THOSE I LOVE

We all have responsibilities to those closest to us!

I would assure my family of my faith in Jesus, which gives me eternal life.

Many people leave loved ones... wondering whether they will see them again.

I would tell them of the time I trusted Jesus as my Savior.

I would describe the times God spoke to my heart about His love.

I would give thanks... for those who lived the Christian life before me.

(1) I would recall the words of the preacher at the invitation.

(2) I would tell my loved ones the miracle of that moment.

(3) I would share Bible verses that gave assurance of my salvation John 6:37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

1 John 5:11-13 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

II. THE SECOND PART OF MY SERMON WOULD BE TO SHOW WHERE I'LL LIVE

When I die, I'll move to heaven,

Jesus has been preparing a place for me.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

At death, the souls of Christians leave this earth.

2 Tim. 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.

We move to a better place!

Philippians 1:21-23 for to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

We immediately leave our bodies and our souls move to heaven.

2 Cor. 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Let me tell you about this place where I'm moving.

Heaven is a place of singing.

Rev. 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

Heaven is a place of rest.

Rev. 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.

Heaven is a place of happiness and rejoicing.

Rev. 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.

Heaven is a beautiful place.

Rev. 4:1-6 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this. Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back.
