Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
As Christians, giving is not just an act, it's a lifestyle that brings us joy and fulfillment.
The Joy of Giving
The question of giving is not a matter of choice for Christians; it is a fundamental principle that guides our lives. We are called to give because God has set the example for us through His generous nature. John 3:16 reminds us that God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son. God's giving is unparalleled, and as His followers, we should strive to emulate His generosity.
When we give to those in need, we bless them by lightening their burdens and providing support. It is a joy to be able to help others in their time of need. Romans 12:13 encourages us to share with God's people who are in need, and Galatians 6:9-10 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good, especially to fellow believers. Proverbs 3:27 advises us not to withhold good from those who deserve it when we have the means to help.
In addition to blessing others, our giving also has an impact on our heavenly account. Just as we store up treasures on earth, we are encouraged to store up treasures in heaven. Our earthly possessions are temporary and can be lost or destroyed, but the treasures we accumulate in heaven are eternal. By giving generously, we make deposits into our heavenly account, which will have lasting value.
When we give with a cheerful heart, our offering becomes a fragrant offering and an acceptable sacrifice that pleases God. Hebrews 13:16 also states that doing good and sharing with others are sacrifices that please God. Just as parents appreciate and commend their children for their good deeds, our Heavenly Father takes pleasure in our acts of kindness and generosity.
God promises to meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. When we give, we demonstrate our trust in God's provision and His faithfulness to fulfill His promises. Proverbs 3:9-10 encourages us to honor the Lord with our wealth, and Malachi 3:10 assures us that when we bring our tithes into the storehouse, God will pour out blessings upon us.
To give or not to give is not the question for Christians. Instead, we should focus on what we are doing with what God has already given us. Giving is not only a way to bless others and meet their needs, but it also pleases God and credits our heavenly account. Let us strive to emulate God's generosity and experience the joy that comes from giving. Remember, it is not the amount we give that matters, but the heart behind our giving that truly makes a difference.
