The Job of the Prophet.
By Rev. Daniel Panitz
The Prophetic office has everything to do with that individual’s intimacy with God.
Only a person intimate with God knows God’s secret place. It’s a place where God reveals Himself and speaks to us.
It is a place where one can see, and hear. It is a place where God reveals Himself to those who are intimate with him. It is where God imparts a message and assigns a job to deliver His message to others.
Jesus told us that those considered to be the least of us in this world, have the capacity to be the best of us, by virtue of the in dwelling of His Holy Spirit. Therefore any of us have the capacity to be a prophetic people if we are intimate with God. If we live in a place that is close to God’s heart.
Anyone who believes in God has the capacity to be prophetic. Anyone intimate with God can be Prophetic and can be used by God
Acts 2; 17-18 states : “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.”
Jesus closely associated Himself with the prophets. Jesus is the fullness of the prophet, and the spirit of prophesy.
Moses prophesized that Jesus would come and he would be raised amongst us as a prophet.
Saying “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear…I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.”
Prophets are not perfect people. They are people in a spiritual progress but in the earthly world they may not be perfect. Yet they are but maturing in the Lord. They have been touched by the Holy Spirit to do a job. To bring a message of God to us …that is their Job.
Their job is not to put their earthly biases in what they speak, but rather find a way of communicating so that God’s message is clearly understood by others.
WHAT MUST A PROPHIT DO?
1. Avoid a man pleasing spirit
2. Refuse to compromise, but speak from the Heart of God.
3. Embrace a Spirit of Honor and avoid earthly gossip and backstabbing.
4. Commit to a close relationship with God an intimate relationship
5. Disengage from territorial and religious completion
6. Be humble and admit errors.
7. Always stay intimate with God.
Intimacy is at the very core of being someone who hears and sees from God. It is only normal for prophets to operate in dreams, visions, and revelations.
Prophets are not perfect people and their road is hard.
In Mathew 5: 11-12 it says, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake, Rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Sometimes the greatest persecution comes from your own family or your own community or from those who think that they know you the best.
“For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.” And then again the Bible tells us
“But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching. Yes often a prophet has no glory in his own land and his own family may limit him his own community may limit him as they are the most doubtful. They see his human flaws and cannot see his Spirit of God as they are blind by human limitations.”
God speaks to us through his prophets. If we fear what our prophets may say, and if we hold them in disbelieve, then we create a situation where the devil can steal away the message of God.
