THE HOLY SPIRIT INDWELLING IN THE BELIEVER

TEXT: 2 Corinthians 6:16, Ezekiel 36:27, Acts 6:5, Galatians 5:22; 1 Corinthians 3:16

Introduction: The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the mechanism whereby the Christians salvation is accomplished. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts the unbeliever and causes him to see the truth of the gospel in a clear light. Those who respond to this conviction and place their faith in JESUS CHRIST receive eternal life and a new nature.

The Holy Spirit enables the Christian to live a righteous and faithful life. The Holy Spirit indwells the true believer permanently. While the child of GOD may grieve the spirit, the spirit will never abandon the true believer.

WORK OF HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF A BELIVER-

The Holy Spirit empowers Christians for service in many ways

1. Wisdom , Understanding and Counsel

2. Fortitude- Courage in adversity

3. Knowledge-John14:26

4.Piety- reverent and show of charity.

5. Fear of the LORD- the Holy Spirit controls the believer who yields to GOD and submits himself to GOD’s word. The believer lives in the power of the Spirit and produces the fruit of the Spirit. Acts 1:8, Romans 8:1-17

The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts or abilities for services to every believer. 1cor 12:11

The Holy Spirit seals the believer. This guarantees the security of the believer until the day of redemption.

The Holy Spirit unites the believer with Christ and places him in the body of Christ, the church. He also unites the believer with Christ in his death, enabling him to live victoriously over sin.

HOW DO WE KNOW YOU ARE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?

The real evidence is the spiritual fruits, produced in our lives, not speaking in tongues.

Our speech – this reflects in our hearts. We won’t be engaging in gossip and evil speaking.

Our thankfulness- we are able to appreciate GOD in all circumstances, for who he is.

Our singing- there is always a song in our hearts.

Our submission- when we are filled with the spirit, it shows in the way we threat others.

CONCLUSION: In summary, the Holy Spirit empowers the believer to do the impossible.
